This was completely expected, it is typical Aulas to respond in this way, not worried at all. If anything it is following the life cycle of how the transfer will go - player is highly valued, we put a low opening bid, Aulas talks some more, we return with improved bid, fee agreed, player signs.
This time next week I expect us to have him, and we hopefully set our sights on Partey. I understand we need to activate his release clause at least 48 hrs before the window shuts. Feeling positive.

This guy (Aouar, not the journo) is confusing, he’s obviously got skill but his numbers seem really poor for the price tag we’re considering. Don’t know what to think to be honest.

Looks like this is on…multiple sources reporting that we have made a formal bid for the player…Lyon need to sell…President is doing his dance but I’m confident now we can get him. If we can get him for lower than the asking price, then we can go after Partey.
He definitely is, the guy’s also the goat president in Ligue 1, and arguably other leagues too.
He’s not being brought for a pretty stat sheet tbh, seems a player like him is pivotal to the way in which Arteta wants to set up moving forward.
Don’t think that’s true when you think of him as an 8. Just looking at basic goal+assist numbers, for example, he has had 18 and 19 last two years during his age 20 and age 21 seasons. And the second season was cut short because Ligue 1 didn’t return after Covid. An attacking 8 like Aaron Ramsey exceeded that only twice in his career.

Still so many players in the squad to sell, players Arteta has no plan of using, but can’t finish off those deals to raise that money for Aouar… ffs what a frustrating situation.
