Quite like the idea of Xhaka sticking around as a squad player to be honest. The experience of him, Partey and Jorginho is a useful tool. He’s clearly influential in the dressing room.
No room for sentiment in football though, if he’s open to moving and we can get a better player, it’s a good move all round.
If we’d only get (as some reports have suggested) £15-20m for him, he’s worth more to us to keep around even if it’s only as backup/rotation.
That’s unless we do go out and sign 2 quality midfielders and these funds allow us to do that.
Odegaard Rice Partey Mount Jorginho (Elneny Viera emergency backup) should be enough.
But take Mount out of there and there’s too few options for a 3-man midfield for a club playing in the champions league
He did 2-3 dirty challenges I think but I don’t believe they were intentional. He was second best to get to the ball. But what I really respected is that he was the only Newcastle player who apologised to our players after those challenges/tackles. Unlike the other fucks (Bruno, Joelinton, Trippier, Schar…) that were intentionally putting in nasty challenges and picking up unnecessary fights that bit them in the ass in the end.
He was focused on the football and was first to try to calm both sets of players after each tackle his teammates did that resulted in a heated argument.
You gotta admire the chutzpah of continental clubs though. They know all it takes is one middle to big PL club to buy one of their guys and it could help fund a massive portion of their payroll.
I’m starting to think PL clubs will really only be able to buy and sell to each other in the future.
If Loserkusen want to pay 7m in Klarna installments for Xhaka we’re probably gonna see more guys like him run their contracts down.
