Granit Xhaka

I mean, it’s one of the worst films ever made.

Less responsibility in possession. A little more responsibility out of possession when the team is on the attack. He was making forward runs with excellent timing all afternoon.

In the pre-match team huddle, it’s Xhaka that reaffirms the manager’s words… ©

It’s really not. I only watch bad films now. Grease is above everything I watch by a country mile.

Oh and to add. I went to see Grease in theatre recently. Staring Peter Andre. Still great.

Also @Jules i used to respect your opinion. But this has turned you into Man United.

Was that the one at the Etihad last season?

I was right behind that. Never a red card in a month of Sundays.

Hey, I still like ABBA. And musicals!

Do you like Grease?

How many league goals do we see from Xhaka if he remains a starter? It feels like Arteta is using him almost like how Pep used Gundogan a few years back, making lots of late runs into the box and back post runs on crosses.

I think he might actually outscore Odegaard this season.

How many league goals? Three. Let’s not get carried away.

Have you seen how much time he is spending in the opposing box? We’re pushing him up really aggressively at times.

I can see 6-7 goals this season if we keep doing this.

Not that many because he’ll lose his spot to the midfielder we sign.

Where have you read or heard that?

Turner is a very good shot stopper, but isn’t great at playing out from the back. I’ve had the chance to watch him quite a bit and don’t think he’s a great fit for how we want to play unless he suddenly takes a real leap with his passing, but I’ve never thought he was terrible. There are plenty of USA keepers we could have signed who are terrible though.

Against Palace he didn’t, against Leicester some excellent third man running. The goal was a piece of poor keeping followed by a tap in. That’s not a dig as you need to be in the right place.

He’s still a bit gun shy though which is odd as he has a rocket of a left foot.

Over 5 league goals from Xhaka and Odegaard would really boost our chances of top 4.

How many goals and assists do Tielemans, Maddison and Paqueta get in that role?

Tielemans doesn’t strike me as an output merchant, I can’t pretend to have watched loads of Paqueta.

Maddison would be closer to 10 goals and 10 assists than 5 of each.

As much of a Maddison fan that I am, I won’t lie and say Xhaka doesn’t have some advantages over him in that position.

Yep, check his numbers. They’re pretty good and he doesn’t really play that advanced for Leicester either. I think Xhaka’s current role is even more progressive.

Tielemans averaging around 5 goals and 5 assists a season has surprised me! I see Tielemans as a much more progressive passer than Xhaka. Granit is a bit more savvy at winning fouls, is more of a physical presence and retaining possession.

The thing is Tielemans is 5 years younger and can still develop.

Deploying Tielemans where Xhaka is currently being used would be a significant upgrade. Quicker feet, more inventive, slicker passer and has an appetite for shooting. He’s been used a bit higher up the pitch by Rodgers last season so that sort of role in our system would be a really good fit.

He’s got the skillset to work in tandem with Partey as well. Excellent ball retention, good under pressure, collects / recycles the ball from deeper positions and his vertical passing is of a very high standard.

We need a CM and an upgrade to the first XI. Tielemans represents that at a really good price. I’m just surprised we haven’t gone for him already, which makes me feel like he isn’t a first choice at all.

Actually, he was used a bit deeper than usual last season, especially when Ndidi got injured.
Even played as a single pivot like Partey.

On paper, Partey and Tielemans is a nice balance.

------------Partey-------Xhaka----------
------------------Odegaard

------------Tielemans—Zinchenko------
------------------------Vieira

------------El Nenny------Lokonga--------
-----------------------ESR------------------------

Xhaka, Tielemans and Odegaard would have to play towards their maximum, but that’s good depth. Partey would still be the only world class player in there, but Liverpool won a title with Wijnaldum and Henderson as mainstays.

I am not suggesting that we can win the title by the way!
