Granit Xhaka

Yeah I think he will be good but would expect him playing higher up and he definitely looks too weak atm to be part of a 2 man pivot.

Eventually hoping he can be half as good as Bernardo is for city and fill that role in a 3, but it will take years.

What 2 man pivot?
Please don’t tell me you’re one of them. The one that believe we play 4-2-3-1. :gabriel:

(Fully expect us to revert to that when Partey eventually gets injured🤣)

Well it’s a 4-3-3 of sorts now but Odegaard is still higher up playing like a CAM so in reality it’s not that much different.

Basically I wouldn’t trust a midfield of Vieira, Partey and Odegaard no matter how we want to play them.

Technically Xhaka was most offensive one of the two against Leicester.
Arteta addressed it today, that depending on who plays there they will have different responsibilities and such.
He did mention Vieira too.

I think if we have some sort of injury crisis or we’re desperately looking for a goal you may see a midfield trio of Odegaard-Partey-Vieira.
He did try to use ESR in that LCM spot but I don’t think it ever clicked.

Pretty much agree, but for me it’s:

CM
Backup RB
Backup RW
LW
Backup CB

Surprised none of you are suggesting a GK. I’ve gone full circle a few times on Ramsdale. When we signed him I was not at all convinced it was a good idea, especially for the fee. Over time he won me round. But end of last season and start of this, for me he has been dodgy and the weak link. Showing signs of his old self. And our back up is barely a footballer.

For me, I like Ramsdale, I think he is a little too hyper and sometimes just needs a little calm. He is very young still and still learning. He is immensely passionate and definitely has bags of talent, I think he will develop into a great keeper for us. (That said I would prefer a better #2 that pushes Ramsdale more)

Ramsdale has had a lot of experience already. Don’t get me wrong, I like him. He won me over. But I was more trying to make a point about Xhaka. Xhaka plays brilliantly yet people mention how he missed one cross. Yet Ramsdale is out there doing what ever he wants and gets away with it because he is young and a nice person.

It’s like people are reacting to Xhaka’s 5 seasons of fuckups at Arsenal compared to Ramsdale’s one

He hasn’t had 5 seasons of fuck ups though. He has probably had 5 fuck ups. Which is a totally different thing.

He’s had 5 straight reds, so that’s a minimum of 5 fuck ups if you’re being kind to him.

Ramsdale bailed him out for giving the ball away to Fofana in 4th min…

No. Because at least 2 of those reds (I would argue 3) would not have been given to any other player. And also; with cards you have to take into consideration the position they’re playing. Like people make a big deal of Lineker never getting booked, mate - you’re a forward, unless you’re a diver or a prick (or both) you shouldn’t be getting booked!

Xhaka has been class. I’m going to wait until he does it against a few top teams. Red cards against City and Pool last season and gave away a pen.

Yeah I was blown away by him yesterday, probably his best game ever for us.

Only took him 5 years to get his shit together but I like what I’m seeing now though.

I mean Xhaka has certainly had more than 5 fuck ups lol, he used to have that in a season.

He’s doing better higher up because he’s pressed less and even if he makes a mistake it’s less dangerous to us. It also takes more advantage of his passing ability.

If it makes it clearer, I don’t think Partey can be relied upon either for the full season and hence a CM is vital given our lack of quality depth there.

Xhaka will 100% get a ban at some point, Partey will 100% get an injury. Lokonga or Elneny getting significant minutes is a risk, they should be rotation for cups/EL only right now.

He’s also definitely a leader within that dressing room, you can see it on the pitch and even in the AoN.

A good guy to have around, a great option but for me still upgradable in the starting XI.

Haven’t seen much of yesterday’s game as was flying but glad he did well again by the sounds of it.

Worth watching it tbh

He could have had 2 goals and had some great runs into the box. Played like peak Ramsey.
