Granit Xhaka

If he let silva fall without laying a hand on him VAR would have waved it away

That’s kind of where I am with it.

He should know better. I understand players grapple all the time and it doesn’t get called. He knows that too. He took a risk and it didn’t work out. I’m not sure he needed to grab him though.

Was the penalty given because it was him? We’ll never know. Maybe a little bit.

But that’s just who he is. He’s always going to cost us.

Mentally slow. No

Inconsistent. Again no. I think he’s very consistent. The bad moments are as predictable as the good.

Lacks pace. Sure, but that’s not the be all or end all. In fact he makes up for that most of the time. The inability to move his feet versus tricky players is deffo a hinderance. Especially if he finds himself defending a 1v1 in the penalty area.

Stop saying reasonable things. It’s unsettling. I need you to go back to saying crazy nonsense.

We…agree on something?

:ooo:

That’s not a defence though. Penalties are given all the time, yet I don’t see footballers acting like children and scuffing the spot.

You seem to forget that this isn’t new for xhaka…

I haven’t forgotten anything. That’s just completely irrelevant to my point.

That’s point he does this shit that has a knock on affect; if it’s not getting sent off it’s brains dead moments leading to goals, or getting unnecessary yellows putting us on the back foot.

This guy has been with us for years and these things has not gotten any better.

I despise Xhaka but you can’t blame him for Gabriel making a decision to scuff the spot. That was really dumb.

6 penalties…that’s a lot of penalty concessions :joy:

Man City, Stoke, Tottenham, I know for sure. Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Brighton I think are the others.

Most were soft though. See them not given all the time. Maguire on Tomiyasu springs to mind immediately.

I won’t be overly critical on him for this reason.

If Rodri makes that exact same play on Saka do you believe they’re overturning the on field decision ? I sure as hell don’t.

I do yes

It was a penalty on Odegaard mate, they didn’t give that one.

It’s a clearer situation and easier to give. I agree Odegaard was a penalty though.
Xhaka shouldn’t get excused because of it.

You don’t need to convince me. I think a lot of us know Xhaka is harshly treated by the referee. I like Xhaka, but we’ve got to adapt to this reality.

I just feel robbed, my take on the situation is you either let it flow and be lenient and neither are given.

Or you take a more harsh stance and both are given, depending how you referee the game.

To give 1 and not the other seems selective and fucking stiff.

The defence of ā€œthe refs didn’t punish this other similar instanceā€ is a very poor defence to Xhaka’s stupidity.
If he is stupid in an unfair world, he will still be stupid in an ideal world

Well actually the ref let both go. It’s VAR that called the main decision.
