Granit Xhaka

This might be what people want to read and hear, getting all the likes etc

I’m afraid the reality is we do have players that will cry over it, will rally around Xhaka because they’re much closer to him than to the fans, and will probably now go into their shells in upcoming home games

We have the players we do in the era we are now in and people have to be a bit smarter in dealing with them and their egos

He looks after all of their keys.

^ This guy can fuck off. Why are some Arsenal bloggers obsessed with playing up how “toxic” and “awful” and “poisonous” the atmosphere is at the club?

You think Newcastle fans or Blackpool fans or Chelsea fans wring their hands over stuff like this? Absolutely not. I just can’t understand it. Besides, booing a player in the stadium who is acting like a baby is different by an order of magnitude to seeking out someone’s wife on social media and putting them on blast.

Footballers are modern day gladiators and they get paid for it.

Arsenal are so classy they charge their fans one of the highest prices in Europe having not won a major honour since 2004

Question mark

Edit - MMs post initially said 2002 but it’s interesting the FA Cup is valued as little as it is these days. It used to be the dream of every schoolboy to play in one.

You quoted me as I edited the typo.

FA Cup is fine but nowhere near league titles.
We’re not even challenging which would even slightly justify prices etc

PL and CL are the only major trophies. The rest while they are great to win are miner trophies

That’s the modern fan’s opinion and possibly the opinion of modern football as a whole.

Little unsettling about Torreria crying or being upset. Seems to be quite the disconnect between the coach, players and fans. Also concerning that the squad still seems to have the weak mentality that existed under Wenger’s last few seasons that they fold like a cheap card table at the first sign of any adversity or pressure.

Surely, the players understand that the boos were directly much more at Emery who isn’t up to the job and the frustration of really poor football, not too mention continuing to keep players on the pitch that are the culprits like Xhaka of really poor play. Xhaka egging the crowd on made it much worse. Should have just jogged off and moved on.

Does Emery understand the disconnect and fan’s frustration?

As IORP once famously said, MM only says what people wanna hear :fist:

What a juvenile fucking discussion really!

You get good and bad with everything. Every footballer knows what he is signing upto.
Pros - Great wages, free merchandises, fans worship you like a God, all the pussy in the world is up for your grabs.
Cons - You are supposed to perform on pitch or expect criticism from disgrunted fans.

Why is booing such a taboo? It’s booing, not a racial or political chant that it’s a complete no no.
Booing like boooooooo
That’s fucking it.

Are fans just supposed to turn up and be jolly about everything?

Players are upset, players are crying because there were boos for 10 fucking seconds.
Oh cry me a river Torreira.
Go back to your girl and get some cuddles & suck on her titties you emotional fuck.

If players love the adoration, the songs fan make for them, the merchandise fan buy off them; then they should have the balls to face the criticism when it comes their way.

Considering how toxic digital media gets with death threat and everything, do you really warm stop the harmless boos?

I can see your point, but I doubt the players will retreat into their shells any more than they already do. The squad will reflect on the result, the overall performance and the fans’ reaction over the next few days. I don’t for a second believe that players like Bellerin, Holding, Tierney, Guendouzi etc. will be deeply impacted by this incident. They know it was a shit result and they know that there are players in the team who aren’t up to scratch - the same players who let the side down consistently.

Fans turning on the manager or turning on certain players (perhaps in not such a high-profile way) happens all the time. Chelsea literally do this same song and dance every season, and the players have routinely come out the other side, and carried on performing. The strong ones at least, and they have had quite a few of those over the years.

Xhaka being our captain epitomises everything wrong at the club. This incident shatters any illusions there might have been about his fitness for the armband. No captain of a club, particularly of one as historied as ours, should ever behave this way and be allowed to walk away unscathed.

However, this is all Emery’s doing by making him captain. Put the fucker right in the line of sight of the fanbase, and they have poured all their venom directly on to him. He is being scapegoated - he is definitely not the sole issue within the squad / system. However, he is part of a much larger problem under Emery and his useless management. For that I do have sympathy, but Xhaka’s past comments expose how unbelievably deluded he is, and the warped sense of his own ability. I doubt it will have shattered his own self-belief, but at least he is now unequivocally aware that the fans of his own club do not see him as some sort of top class midfielder.

One of the biggest gripes I’ve had in the last decade of watching Arsenal is the lack of mental strength throughout the squad. A response is what we all want to see. I doubt one will be forthcoming, but I put that more down to Emery than the players. Things will get worse but not for one second will I hold this one particular incident to blame. Fan discontent has been building for months now and it should not be a surprise that it eventually boiled over.

Almost every football player is subjected to some level of abuse on the pitch from opposing fans, and also on social media. Their owns fans booing one of their mates won’t break them or damage their egos anymore than what they have been through before. I doubt it will have any discernible impact at all because Emery is the root cause of our malaise right now, which is the most tragic thing about the situation.

It’s an unfortunate thing to have happened, but ultimately, if it accelerates Emery’s departure then I’ll look back on this in 12+ months with gratitude.

POTY

I don’t like Xhaka… not the type of player that we need and we want, and not a captain material… most of us know that.
But that doesn’t mean I have to hate him.
We don’t have to.
He is not a repeat offender and I will give him a chance.
Just move on and let’s see how the club and he will respond to that.

I have trouble believing that Xhakas treatment will hurt the other players confidence. These guys especially the young ones are on social media, they are probably fully aware of how bad the fans think Xhaka is. He’s their teammate tho, we all had that mate who was shit but you still had to include him in the your kick arounds because he was your friend. These guys play against him every day they know his limitations.

Yeah lol, that guy is a bit up his own arse, isn’t he?

What makes it worse is he doesn’t even hand Auba the armband he flings it to the ground in a huff meaning Auba has to pick it up himself.

Such a cunt
