Be interesting to see where their economy goes. Either it turns the country into a beacon of that part of the continent, or it all ends up in the hands of crazy warlords.
Option 3: A western backed coup installs a dictator who hands all mining rights over to foreign companies.
Not just Africa although they’re a pristine example.
Bauxite is a natural resource in Jamaica that fortunately the government owns majority share in it’s operation, but there’s been historic problems with levies being paid. These companies/corporations will take the piss if they can (and have).
It’s really frustrating knowing you have to be careful with decisions made because you don’t want to upset the power in the region (U.S). But there is still quite a bit of cowardice involved.
All told, this planet is pretty fucking awful - but it’s all we’ve got.
NZ was pretty much entirely bush for long parts of our history and there are huge patches that remain to this day.
Remember, the country is only about 3% urbanized and that’s a landmass the size of England basically.
We’re talking hundreds of square kilometres of thick bushland with no cell reception or connection to the outside world.
We don’t have any snakes, and the spiders are mostly harmless but it’s not hard to get lost in the isolated, dense bush here. It’s not all flat land either, plenty of hills and ravines etc.
The planet is a paradise
The inhabitants are parasites
You sound like a Bond villain about to release a neurotoxin into a crowded stadium to prove a point.
I actually really liked that movie.
It was one of the better Bond movies tbf
“People shouldn’t have children they can’t afford”
“People aren’t having children! Won’t somebody please think of the economy!!”
Its more of a cultural issue rather than affordability.
This one of the big reasons the west is in decline
Yep. But I also do think affordability is playing a part too. I think a lot less people are inclined to want to have kids due to money.
Combination of the two I’d say. But definitely more cultural.
My wife and I didn’t have kids because we were too busy having a good time in our 30s and 40s. Best decision we ever made.
So that’s probably both financial and cultural for us. It’s the biggest, least reversible decision you can make in life. Also, we both like having a quiet, peaceful home.
Declining birth rates is a bigger issue in Asia.
The article covers that the researching body identified affordability as the number one factor in the UK.
Youngsters having to live with parents into their thirties doesn’t exactly help with the “making a baby” process either.
Why the fuck would you want to bring a child into this shambles of a world we now live in.
It’s changed vastly and for the worse over the last two decades. People can just about afford to look after themselves aswell.
Tbh. In the context of the UK and perhaps by extension the West. Affordability and culture is the same thing. There’s no reason to seperate the two. What doesn’t money influence here?
Money is the culture.
