There a clear and strong causal link between the actions of the suffragettes and the practical, constitutional and morally good outcomes they sought by demanding extension of suffrage to adult women which wasn’t a radical position even at the time.
The likes of Just stop oil, XR and Insulate Britain are climate alarmists and rabid far leftists who intentionally hold unrealistic and impractical demands. Their protests are more about individual virtue signalling, alarmism and credentialism.
For all the “attention” they temporarily garner on slow news days, you literally cannot tie their activism to any kind of tangible or actionable gain for their mission goals or even a positive change in public opinion. These people are clowns looking for a sword to fall on.
Meanwhile there are adults and serious people working to combat climate change in tangible ways, there are literally billions of private and public funding working towards reducing its effects globally.
I care passionately about addressing climate change, but I don’t agree with how JSO go about raising the profile of the issue. Pissing people off and going about causing criminal damage isn’t the way to highlight the problem. I actually think their actions have done more harm than good to the cause and created headlines about the group rather than the issue.
I’ll stand corrected but I can’t point to anything they have achieved or changed through their actions, except to give the previous Government a justification to clamp down on the ability to protest.
You still don’t get it do you, jso are just hypocrites and attention seekers. I never said climate change wasn’t a threat to our world.
I’m probably doing much more than these people in saving the planet. I generate my own electricity and hot water from solar panels and a wind turbine i grow and eat organic food without pesticides.
Ok I have a car collection but these are classics and the damage is done, the manufacture and running costs of an ev are higher than a fossil fuel car.
China India the US and the rest of the world aren’t bothered by a couple of idiots throwing soup around and they aren’t bothering me.
But you are just being obtuse for the sake of it, you can’t tell the difference between people who can’t even protest properly and people who are actually being practical about helping to save the planet in their own way
The reality is we all know how serious the problem is but we still regularly change our phones, cars and whatever else we feel like. We fly, go on cruises and probably drive more than is strictly necessary, mainly for convenience.
So if some dickheads want to throw soup at glass covered paintings, throw corn starch (that will wash away naturally) on stonehenge or disrupt traffic…well so be it the way i see it. They’re entitled to their protests in the same we’re all entitled to ignore them and just keep doing the shit we’re doing. If they do something outside the law the authorities will deal with it as they do for other lawbreakers.
I have solar panels, just bought a PHEV and had my house insulated last year so i buy into the ‘cause’ but im also flying to London for the second time in 13 days this weekend
Think of all the heroic ambulances not able to make it to hospital because of this.
Which suddenly becomes very important when some prepubescent is blocking half a road (of course to gammons, heroic ambulances become greedy scumbags when they want fair pay).
Destruction like in Asheville is not just due to mankind increasing carbon emissions. Natural disasters have always existed and have always done damage to various degree.
When people settle in hurricane prone regions, it is not surprising there is going to be destruction. The same for people settling around vulcanos, fault lines on tectonic plates, near shores where tsunamis tend to occur etc.
As for Just Stop Oil, I don’t agree with their tactics, I think it’s rather juvenile and ineffective, but they do have a point though. Climate Change is real and does require more drastic action. At the same time, never have we as mankind tried to do more to get off fossil fuels and the likes - so it is not like we aren’t doing anything. And certain industries it will take a long while before they can be electrified or otherwise change from fossil fuels to renewables.
I guess what I am trying to say is, to help reduce CO2 emissions: buy a Tesla, buy solar from solarcity, pray to Musk. (Just joking, don’t @ me, thx ttyl).
