Perhaps the disagreement may be related to the lawsuit. Apple shouldn’t be sued for some of these, but they should definitely be regulated to comply with standardization.
That’s fine. Technology grows, and we learn new challenges, so we don’t understand the implications of a physical hardware design until it reaches the mass population. But once we have enough data to determine the better design which solves more ground problems, we should define the standard and compel everyone to adhere to it by XYZ year.
Sustainability - Fewer cables to purchase. Because of USB-C, I can power my Pixel, Macbook, iPad and earphones with a single cable. My wife can use my charging cable if she forgot to bring one.
A couple of years ago, some would carry 3 types of cable - lightning, USB-C and Micro-B; or adapters like USB-A to USB-C
There would be more cables to produce and more inventory to maintain, all of which is unnecessary when you have a standard that allows for a superior charging speed and data transfer.
Less costly products—Instead of a laptop maintaining different ports, it can maintain a single USB-C port for all purposes, which also takes up less space on the unit and allows you to fit in more ports.
Innovation is still protected. For instance, wireless charging is still being adopted despite poor energy efficiency. Any company that makes a breakthrough can capture market share in wireless charging. However, in 5 years time, we would need to standardise that as well for similar reasons as USB-C
Unfortunately mate I can’t find much to disagree with in your last one, although I think standards should be set around quality and provide frameworks for implementation rather than specific shapes/sizes etc.
There’s a reason it was the first ruling of its kind but obviously the main benefit in that case is very specifically the single connector.
Wish they’d make a ruling to force apple to send the power adapter directly with the phone again though.
Forcing consumers to stick with an inferior option because it is the only one you’ve made compatible is a monopolising tactic and is fair game to attack imo.
I’m not gonna repeat it all lol but the cables weren’t actually mentioned in the lawsuit. That was just an OA side discussion.
Fair enough if you think them being forced into usb-c is a good thing but imo there was nothing wrong with them keeping their tech in play as long as poss.
Had lightning been newer and superior, would you have been fine with other companies being forced to adopt and accommodate it?
Fuck, The Princess of Wales has cancer. I mean, cards on the table, I’m not a Royalist but anyone with an ounce of empathy must feel for her, William and the family at this time.
RIP to the innocent Russian victims in what appears to be a terrorist attack on a Moscow concert hall tonight too. What an awful night of news.
That was my thought. As a regular gig-goer the Paris one really hit home. An old friend of mine from my Colchester days was killed working on the merch stall that night.
So it turns out US intelligence had a tip-off suggesting a terror attack in Russia going as far as to say that large public gatherings and concerts could be the target.
Putin waved it away as US scare-mongering. Though on this occasion it appears the US may have rattled Putin because they knew more about it than his own security forces. Not a good look for Putin. I don’t think there’s any US involvement. Looks like a terrorism.
It sure seems strange how quickly Western media blames ISIS for this attack. Based on some alleged statement from “a branch of ISIS”.
In Russian media last night not a word was mentioned of ISIS or Muslims. Only that 5 terrorists clad in combat camouflage entered the building and started shooting at everyone.
If they reported it as fact then yes, that would be sloppy. If they report that the claim has been made thats quite obviously different and i dont see any issue with it.
It’s isis affiliated media who first reported the statement, id probably think it stranger if other media just ignored that. (Not that id know)
