Reminds me of this, when these guys think having their guns will do anything when the government sends in the professional trained army to deal with their idiocy.

Yeah buddies, that’s gonna work out really well for y’all when these guys come in:

Something tells me John and his buddies won’t last 5 seconds when push comes to shove.

Yet unlike a knife a gun has only one purpose and that’s to kill.

If I say what I really think about a lot in here in terms of knowledge/intelligence/insight about politics, policies, geopolitics, foreign affairs, etc., outside football, with people thinking they are having a “salient discussion” (roflpmsl) I probably would be banned, so believe it or not in some ways I still hold back and am relatively kind. I know shamrock knows this (how I really feel) and that’s why I had him triggered a while back.

All I ask is any feelings between us here do not spill into the football threads. I value the discussions in those because I pick up useful information and perspectives.

Well you’ve just indirectly said what you think of most of us why don’t you say what you really think coward.

Which is why the baby George Washington (hallowed be thy name ) explicitly gave us the right to weaponizes drones and blocks of C-4.

It’s in the Constitution.

Nah, you almost certainly wouldn’t get banned. I know you’ve not been around for a very long time, but we have a pretty high threshold for banning people.

If your true thoughts on politics or current affairs were literally outright fascist then you’d probably get a ban I guess lol, but as that’s clearly not the case, you’d be in no danger.

You come across as really disingenuous with all this “if I shared my true thoughts” business, and even more so in the case of the “I dont like arguing, this forum gives me a headache blah blah blah” comments, when you look like you’re going out of your way to be combative in this thread because of perceived slights.

Maybe you should just stick to the football parts of the forum if you’re going to get so worked up. When you’re from the world’s dominant super power of recent history then you’re meant to have more of a Chad mentality. You’re the most powerful nation on earth, you should expect others to have some animosity and criticisms. After all, do you expect us Europeans to be happy that the US brutally cucked us and turned us into vassal states? We’re bound to be at least a little resentful.

Rampant gun violence. Over and over again.
Rampant economic disparity between people.
Bare minimum safety net. If you lose your job and house. This exceptional country welcomes you to the homeless population which is a vicious circle extremely hard to get out of.
Rampant drug abuse.
Rampant drug trafficking.
Rampant corruption, nicely called lobbying in the U.S.
No universal healthcare.
Extreme political polarization. Which is funny because both parties throw a bone for their “followers” but push comes to shove are the same fucking uniparty.

I could go in with the negatives.

Sorry, to me it doesn’t sound exceptional at all. It sounds fucked up.

And the pledge of allegiance. Europe had that, particularly Germany a while ago. Didn’t end up so well for them and the world.

Having said that. There are some exceptionally nice people in the states. Amazing scenery and landscapes. Amazing opportunity for those who aren’t in the gutter.

It’s just too bad that the political system is utterly and utterly degraded and toxic.

Cool, I do want to stick to the football threads but lost control with the America bashing that triggered me. Earlier, before this really descended, I did of course explain why little to nothing will happen after this event in terms of policy changes, I did say ERPO’s might be what ramp up in some places at state and local level, no doubt you will see stuff from the likes of Gavin Newsom, but other than that no one in here really has any solution in mind that is going to realistically pass into legislation within the political lay of the land… but anyways, yeah, I am trying to stick to the e football threads, and will try harder to do so.

Man’s a twat.

This guy made me believe in the Elneny Thread that he is very particular about his time & engagement on internet

A lot of it is time of day and what is going on at the same time, so it isn’t purely about time spent, esp. if it is late at night and all is clear. If there are other things going on and other things on my mind that I am mulling over I do easily get irritable, wanting to get out asap. As it is, have to go, running late this morning.

Imagine OA having this discussion irl at the Tollington on game day. It would end with hugs, singing and severe drunkenness.

I get where Ice is coming from partially. The United States really does have some great qualities. Being born into privilege like a lot of us are, it’s hard to look at it in a balanced way. I know a lot of imigrants that have come to the US and made a great life for their families, much better opportunities than what they had in their home country. In fact I’ve met a lot of immigrants who are more patriotic than ppl born here because of that, grass is not always greener type deal.

Two things can be true at once, what could be a really great place to live can be destroyed and is being destroyed by greedy politicians. These republics dont last forever…

I was raised to be neutral in politics tho. I come from an interesting upbringing to say the least. Born and raised in Los Angeles california but my parents have different ideals that were drilled into me at a young age. I dont follow them now, but ur upbringing has a lot of impact on the way u think regardless.

Just stopping domestic abusers from having guns would be a good start.

In my experience working as a prosecutor they already are prohibited.

I show up for an arraignment (where the judge reads the charges and tells the defendant what their rights are). Sometimes I have to ask for a specific bail amount.

Depending on the courtroom the judge may ask if the victim is present. If she (and it’s almost always a “she”) is there, the judge may ask if they’re afraid of the defendant. If the victim says no, the judge will release the defendant because of laws mandating the court impose the least restrictive bail conditions keeping in mind that this person is still presumed innocent. If the victim says yes, they are afraid and the judge can’t find any less restrictive conditions to impose, that person is remanded until trial.

But even if a person accused of domestic violence is released pending trial they are always ordered not to possess firearms and to surrender any legally held firearms until the matter concludes. If that person is convicted, they are already banned in some jurisdictions from having guns.

I understand wanting to hit up the low hanging fruit like domestic abusers or some empty rhetoric about keeping guns out of the hands of “repeat offenders” or “hardened criminals”. That’s great. The one thing we haven’t tried yet is just having fewer guns. Even some of those mandatory minimum laws, which sound real great in theory (have a gun? do five years) sometimes complicate things.

I was under the impression that one of the most dangerous callouts for a police officer, are domestic abuse cases.

We don’t go on about it half as much as we do the negatives, but I honestly think nobody here would deny that. In fact, I often think a recognition of that fact is why people are extra critical when it comes to things like gun laws or the issue of racism. It’s hard to look at a country that’s fantastic in so many ways but seems to have it so wrong on some issues.

What I’d add is that I’d have no problem with people viewing my country through the same lens. I was joking earlier about the Chad thing, but its true to an extent. We were once that world super power, obviously a long time before I was born, but I know a bit about colonialism and the shit Britain has done more recently that we shouldn’t be proud of, and I fully understand why it would colour the perception of people from other countries, and why they might spend more time ragging on Great Britain than they do talking about all the things that are great about it.

You’ve captured a lot of it, especially immigrants who go on a merit basis who are as patriotic as anyone because they migrated for certain values reasons and they want those values protected.

Maybe think of it a bit like the Pakistani or Indian who migrated to Britain to own a corner shop in the 1980s, and they are as patriotic as any naturally born Brit.

It is our personal journey for our personal reasons, I am not saying everyone has to be the same, and for the record I like many countries and cultures, but if I have to defend mine against attacks that I believe are unfair or whatnot I will ferociously defend.

I’m just cutting and pasting something (from PragerU) I just came across a few minutes earlier. It is just a perspective, probably will offend some in here, but it is just a perspective, and not necessarily = 100% my perspective, but it might come close to explaining why there is something deep-felt that gets triggered by Anti-American tropes.

Condemning Anti-Americanism
(Dennis Prager Show, 24-May)

Join Dennis [Prager] and Julie [Hartman] as they discuss Julie’s senior speech at Harvard. She spoke about condemning anti-Americanism. Leftism reduces America to its ugliest moments. We must stand up and fight, as President Reagan said: “If not us, who? If not now, when?” America will face a reckoning if we do not counter this “woke” movement. Explore your own mind, it takes discipline, very few people produce without coercion. Modern conservatism summarized equals: religion, nationalism, and economic freedom. The antipathy of the Left derives from a desire to be God … the unwillingness to accept a moral transcendent source higher than one’s self.

I think developing a thicker skin might be a good solution.
