Speaking to the media afterwards, Martinelli started by emphasising how pleased he was, before explaining how emotional the call-up made him.
āIām very happy,ā Martinelli [began]. āItās one of the most important moments in my life and in my familyās life as well ā Iām buzzing, Iām so excited to go there and be part of this team.
āI cried a lot, I couldnāt even talk and I was with my family and on the phone but I needed to turn the phone off and call them later because I couldnāt even talk.
āI think it will be good for my career and to play in the World Cup will be amazing. Iām so excited to go there and Iām prepared for the challenge and I hope we will win it.ā
Martinelli also revealed Mikel Artetaās reaction to the news, and his words of encouragement.
āWhen I talked to Mikel [Arteta], he was so happy for me, said ācongratulationsā, and said āgo there and smash itā.ā

I think we all basically accept that foreign players are more likely to leave for the big continental clubs than āhomegrownā academy players. Very few develop the same attachment / love that keeps them loyal.
But so long as we have a nice long contract in place, we can get a good few years out of them and sell them for a huge fee. Thatās the best we can hope for.
Sayi it with your chest Gabi! Fuck that 4th place trophy.
Martinelli regen.
