Gabriel Martinelli (11)

How exactly are Kiwior, Havertz and previously Tomiyasu killing his game?

Nobody told him to overthink every time he had a great opening for a shot in the box and he decided to fucking control, do some unnecessary shit pass it back to Leno.

Bollocks. He is killing his own game. Got into numerous good positions today and pretty much take none of them. Crossing and shotting way of today. Didnt beat his man enough like we are used too.

He is killing his own game.

He has more than half dozen of chances in the past three games but not one caused trouble for the keeper.

It is true that he has zero chemistry with Kai, but didn’t look like he was trying and Kai was failing him.
There were numbers of situations that he should make a quick pass to Kai or someone but he delayed the whole thing by holding the ball too long, even slow decision making when there were scoring opportunities.

The ball is taking too long to get to him.

No, in multiple situations the ball got to him right when it should and he just squandered.

His activity is on point though. Hope it’ll get sorted out after he gets his goal for the season.

Disagree. No fluidity on that side.

He had chances, he killed them

Martinelli had chances yesterday to get the result well and truly buried yet Martinelli does what Martinelli does best , fumbled and stumbled when urgency is required.
Wether or not he links up with Havertz isn’t so much as an issue, Martinelli had opportunities to shoot yesterday yet fumbling about and making poor decisions kills that attack.

For all you who love stats here’s the most important statistic
Played 3 scored 0
We needed him to score and step up a notch yesterday and he failed .

I don’t think it was so much Martinelli as it was the lack of ideas we had towards the end, Ash.

Play it out wide to White. White overcooks a cross that lands at the feet of Martinelli on the left. He gets marked up quickly. Plays it back to Zinny. Cones to nothing as our target men are marked up in the 6 yard area. And rinse and repeat.

He’s not doing it which is the problem. I was hoping to see a huge improvement but he seems to have taken a step back.
Arteta needs more scrutiny possibly. He doesn’t know his best line up , changes formations.
One thing is a gimme , they won’t beat Man U next weekend. I’ve seen nothing so far to suggest we will .

I’m quietly confident that we do. I hope yesterday is a wake up call of sorts. If we take 10 points out of a possible 12 and beat Man United in the process going into the international break, we’re doing OK.

Play everyone in position, particularly in defence, and we could embarrass them big time.

Agreed there . Square pegs and round holes with Arteta at the moment.
Partey and Rice in midfield , surely ?

Yep.

Ben White at RB and Zinny at LB.

Given Tierney’s loan spell, there’s a reliance on Zinny to be fit all season long. Not good.

Tbh Kiwior looks like he can do at least the same job as Tierney can and I think it’s also perhaps why we are seeing the inversion from the opposite side, so we aren’t as reliant on Zinchenko.

Won’t get his flowers but he was brilliant. Kept asking questions, kept running like a maniac(no pun intended), main outlet today.

He run out of energy in the end but he tired AWB. Nelson took advantage of it in a few occasions in the end.

Thought he was out biggest attacking threat.

As soon as he was pushed inside , Nelson replaced him we showed more intent and drive.
For all his efforts, Martinelli still hasn’t scored yet. He certainly shouldn’t be taking corners , he should be in and around the box . He’s got a sharpness that needs to be used .
I’d pair him alongside Jesus .

He could do with a goal, but for now I’m happy with his assists.
