Gabriel Martinelli (11)

It’s also his ability to break things down and take those risks and get into turbo mode to imbalance a defense. We were doing nothing against their low block until that little move. Lucky? Sure, but you make your own luck sometimes. The good thing is, while Trossard doesn’t quite have the burst of Gabby, he can also take men on and break defenses down.

Good problem to have. You just can’t break organized teams down through intricate passing some days.

It was , a brilliant piece of skill .
And then what ?
No good being sublime for five minutes unless it’s literally in the last five minutes and it’s the difference between winning and dropping points .
A big overall criticism of this team and has been for ages , we just can’t kill a team off . Why are we vulnerable at 2-0 ? It should be done and dusted ?

I wonder what impact Martinelli would have playing down the middle with Saka and Tossard on the flanks and being partnered with either Havertz or Jesus ?
Then we’ll see Martinelli at his best .

But he wasn’t just sublime for five minutes…

guy could score 50 in a season and assist 50 and there would be room for improvement and he isnt good enough even though he has many years of learning and improving before he come close to his prime.

Like YOU know

As @Starboy says, Martinelli wasn’t just sublime for five minutes. I thought he was excellent. His runs were excellent, but even more impressive was how hard he was working to track back. I really do think your criticism of the player is very harsh. He is still young and developing, but is already a top player and was one of the best yesterday.

The games not that complicated yet some people just don’t understand it at all.

I’d like to see him playing central playing off someone.
He is certainly very aware in the box and playing of Havertz could be a different story.
Trossard and Saka pushing , Havertz holding the play up and Martinelli playing off him.
That’s potentially a very dangerous attacking line up.
Saka has the freedom , Trossard has that quick awareness.

Like you .

Regardless of what player in what position this team is way way to vulnerable.
We were two up , yes it’s the first game of the season but we’ve had time to work on this but why are we so vulnerable?
Two goals up , to a certain extent cruising but we looked like a bag of nerves .
The fear factor has gone now , especially at home . It is this what is our biggest weakness.
Teams come to The Emirates with more than half a chance . Highbury, it was no chance .
It’s this vulnerability that’s weighing heavily on us and needs sorting out .
Then we’ll move on to achievements of the highest quality

We had the third best home record last season, we were the best by April.

I don’t think any team is looking forward to a fixture at the Emirates.

Yes but @Ashgooner1 is right in terms of vulnerability. We need to stop conceding so many goals at home. It hasn’t cost us too much, but we need to cut that out at home. It was a feature from last season and it is something the team need to improve upon.

Forest hit a beautiful counter attack goal and you could see the panic in the crowd and in our play.
You can’t win the league on previous season’s statistics .
You can cover the issue in marzipan , ganache and any other sugar coating you like but It’s this inability to kill a game off has got to be sorted .
Two or even three up we can let a team create chances.
The brilliance of Saka’s goal and Martinelli’s build up would be meaningless if , yes if is a big word , if Forest had equalised.

There was no panic in the crowd. I was there yesterday! I also know what it was like when there was panic and fear and when the crowd got on the teams back when things were not going well. I’ve not experienced this recently at the Emirates. Collectively, the crowd had believe yesterday, as did I, that we would see the match out and get all 3 points.

I agree with you about killing the game off, and that’s one of the big things we need to improve upon this season. Once we are 2-0 up, we need to go for the jugular and get the third or fourth and kill the game. Arteta said this in his post-match conference so it is clearly something he wants to address.

He didn’t score no. But he assisted, and recovered the ball 8 times from the opposition.

His work rate more than makes up for it. Goals are not the only barometer of a quality player in his position.

To suggest otherwise, is to have an agenda.

I do agree with you however about us being unable to kill games off.

But that doesn’t and shouldn’t mean, to score more goals. It should mean to suffocate the opposition, snuff the life out of them and give them no reason to have chances on goal.

Arsenal’s problem, at home is that we ship in so many goals meaning that our forward players need to score 3-4 goals to be comfortable. Title winning teams shouldn’t need to do that. Our forward players often have to overcompensate for defensive lapses in concentration.

Hopefully this doesn’t become a mainstay this season.

Don’t mind an agenda every now and again but Ash Gooner treats Martinelli (Mar9) as if the Samba Star made him sit in the corner naked and watch whilst he ploughed through his missus.

It’s weird. If your are going to have a go at him, this weekend is a terrible time.

Just chill, @Ashgooner1

I think we understand that, our goals will come from different players; and our tactics will change from game to game

Absolutely our setup yesterday was different from last season. Not just the new players, the returning players need to adjust as well.

We care about our balls, but also our mental health.

As someone who has been told they are the worst poster on OA even I can see Gabi had a good game yesterday.

This guy is our most exciting and dangerous player. Said it at the game against Monaco and he showed it again on Saturday.

Such an important player for us to have
