If he could teach him to turn up for a big game like Luiz did vs City and Chelsea back to back that would be no bad thing.

You’re acting like Luiz is Mustafi or something lol

Yeah really confused why 5 people have liked this. Why would you want a new player to learn absolutely nothing from a player who is not only admired by the whole squad, but who has also won the FA Cup (numerous times), the Premier League, the Europa League and the Champions League?

I hope he learns to be a bloody winner!!!

I know it contains the word seriously but I took it as a fairly flippant remark all the same. One I may have made myself had I got there first.

Nah, you’re better than that

Yeah, maybe you could give him some credit regarding his experience in winning stuff… although you make it sound like it’s an individual sport there. Medals are never a big argment for me.

But I was mostly referring to the sheere quality of his football, and his ability to defend. Except for that season where Conte gave him all the protection in the world (two best DMs in the league at that time in front of him, Azpi and Cahill next to him, two guys who could actually defend) he was always a walking bomb and an average defender overall. Yes, he was very important that season for them with his passing and playmaking from deep, no one can deny that, but you can’t always give him such protection. Besides that always ready to give the opponent a boost with his unimaginable defending moments.

Yes, he was probably our best defender last season but that says little about him… I did appreciate his presence at the back at times, but he still far from a good role model/mentor whatever to any young defender in the world.

If everything goes the right way Saliba and Gabriel should be better defendes than him (in his prime) very soon and should teach him stuff.

And I was referring to the whole picture. I don’t think I did make it sound like an individual sport. I simply pointed out that it would actually be quite handy if players took his advice. And if you listen to the players, a lot of them have taken his advice and really appreciate him. He is a great player to have in the dressing room and occasionally on the pitch.

I know he is far from perfect, but he has a lot of experience and on his day he can still be immense. I don’t agree that he was only good for one season. Maybe his consistency was great that season, but he still has games where he shows his quality and worth, especially to our shit defence.

Or one could just take it as a joke. No one is denying the experience and skills that Luiz has.

I didn’t originally like it, but as I kept reading the following posts I had to go back and like it.

Either way there is some truth in there, his recurring defensive brain farts are what makes him subpar as a defender, they have nothing to do with his ball playing ability or leadership which have always been good.

Fitting the narrative above, that picture of Gabriel’s gestures was begging for a speech bubble

Maybe Holding is trying to explain what HP Sauce is. I never got the appeal myself but it was fucking everywhere.

Really solid performance after that little bit of confusion in the opening exchanges. Sometimes that initial bit of poor play can knock the confidence of a new defender and set the tone for how they are perceived. However, he quickly shook it off and was a wall back there. Dominant in the air.

Obviously it’s Fulham and there are much, much sterner tests to come but hopefully he builds from here.
