18 progressive carries by Gomez and Matip tonight compared to only 3 progressive carries by Saliba and Gabriel last weekend

We do miss that from Ben White when he was playing CB last season.
If we are considering a refresh, we should move Ben White to CB & Tomiyasu to RB

Definitely worth a revisit starting from tonight.

Daniel Sturridge’s career vanished so suddenly.
He was a proper weapon at one point. Missed out on Liverpool’s success era.

He couldn’t stay on the pitch. Injury prone.

Surprisingly, he has 2 CL Medals.

Yeah. Injuries started piling up just when he was about to hit the world-class levels, I believe.
At 24, he had a lot of his career ahead of him.

It’s strange that Bale and Hazard were low on the list and Giroud was way ahead of them.
Although he’d be right near the top, if it was a list of PL goal chances missed. :grinning:

I considered him world class in that last Suarez season (SASsy :henry2: ) and a couple of seasons after that, before the injuries ruined him.

He was brilliant at the time. His goal to games ratio was absolutely incredible for those few years, much better than that overall PL ratio, which is still great.

A not just the number of goals, the quality of his goals was absolutely world class. Solo runs, one two’s, great strikes from distance… Rarely scored average goals.

Was also constantly creating stuff and initiating the moves for Pool.

His reputation stayed relatively low because of the injuries, being in the shadow of Suarez who was unplayable at the time, and not being very good in the NT team. But his performances and numbers for Pool were already world class.

with Bale it is probably because he spent several seasons as a left-back first, with Giroud he came on for short subs and got a goal quite often.

Jesus tho… getting a G+A more often than Harry Kane and De Bruyne, add that to how hard he works with all the pressing and moves to open up space for others - we really need to calm down on the ā€œscore more goalsā€ arguments, I know I repeat myself a lot with this but, if this guy did the same job he does now and scored another 5-10 goals per season he’d topple peak Firminho and would be the best 9 in the world and would probably have left for Real Madrid for Ā£200m a while ago.

We can ofc always hope he has the odd exceptional season where that happens with us, and I know that often criticism is just frustration in the moment when he fucks up his finish which is ofc all good, I 100% understand… but I think in a more rational analysis he adds a tonne to the team he plays for over all. He really makes people around him better on the pitch, not just in attack but in defense as well.

Unlikely. For Arsenal he’s at 0.65 non-penalty g+a per 90. At Man City it was 0.81

Last one of these I’d imagine. This is only the stats for when they played for Arsenal.

non pen goals + assists per 90

Henry 0.95
van Persie 0.85
Podolski 0.83
Giroud 0.76
Reyes 0.74
Alexis 0.73
Kanu 0.68
Bergkamp 0.67
Aubameyang 0.66
Adebayor 0.65
Jesus 0.65
Pires 0.64
Lacazette 0.63
Arshavin 0.62
Walcott 0.62

The great Aubameyang not far off Lacathreat. :laca2:

Just working out the averages here but the first three seasons of Aubameyang had him at 0.84 (if this was calculated properly, I reckon I’d be .02 off either way). That last season and a half killed his numbers.

Arsenal use the central areas the least of any big club. Stark contrast to Man City.
