Folarin Balogun

I simply cannot understand how is a professional striker (or a footballer in general), on a pretty high level, not able to direct the ball better from the spot… I mean the goal is so huge, so many options and just snaps it as if it’s a first time wolley from open play…

In general, footballers are shockingly bad at penalties (I have a feeling they were better in the past  ), I guess they just don’t train them enough. The mental aspect gets waaay too overblown. It’s a technique in the first place. Place it properly and the keeper has NO chance. Nowadays most penalty takers act as if they have to send the keeper the wrong way or he’ll save it. Ridiculous.
Too much FIFA maybe? :pires2:

Looked so scared and panicked on both pens, should never take them again in his life.

Does my head as well. All of them are cowards as well, go for the top-corner.

Same as basketball player sucks at free throw

Horror night for him, but anyone can miss penalties even the best do, doesn’t mean he won’t be a major hit for Monaco.

Good for him that he already had a goal to his name from the previous game.

He was good on pens last year so surprising to miss two but maybe the pressure got to him given it’s a derby fixture.

Ngl kinda hope he turns out shit now so we didn’t miss out.

Yeah. It’s not even that hard to get the top corner. It’s not like you’re aiming from 30 metres/yards.

I mean the best penalty taker in your squad should be able to do that with his eyes closed or the whole squad should just quit football. I mean, seriously. Gtfo

That was a world class finish.
Seeing the highlights he looked really good on the ball on a few other occasions too, receiving the ball and setting others up.

Getting worried we might have made a mistake here :grimacing:

Balogun was a necessary sell because of FFP unfortunately.

Could’ve sold Eddie for the same price tbh, maybe a little less.

I doubt that. Balogun had significant interest from several high-profile clubs. Did a team even make a bid for Eddie?

True. Nobody put an official bid for him. But I recall West Ham being interested, maybe Arsenal weren’t open to selling as they wanted him to compete with Jesus.

They’d have sold him if there was significant money on the table. I just don’t think that was ever a realistic proposition unlike with Balogun.

Probably because nobody wants to lay out serious cash on a guy who doesn’t produce with any regularity.

Balogun wanted to start.
Eddie didn’t mind being a sub.

That’s why we sold Folarin.

I think this is a pretty big factor that a lot of people tend to ignore. And yeah Eddie is seeing a lot of game time right now, but that is due to our current injury freak show.

And despite people not liking it, the club actually rates Eddie highly as well and has delivered when called upon.

All we have from Balogun is his performances for Reims and the Arsenal U21s.

Eddie in his first domestic appearance(coming on as a sub in the 85th minute) for the Arsenal scored two clutch goals in the EFL cup to help Arsenal go through to the next round.

Since then Eddie has actually contributed to the first team and has developed massively off of sub appearances of 10-15 mins max and short runs as a starter.

So it means Eddie survives here just because of situations and timing, not he is better.

By the way, I think games he disappeared are far more than he actually contributed.
He saved us a couple (or few games) but not like he has the quality that can be a starter here.

Balogun, already proved as a starter (even not here) and playing for national team.

He helped us win the last two games.
In fact, he’s been a key part in our great start this season.

Only games I’ll give you he wasn’t good in was Everton and Spurs.

I always expect him to be a sub so I’m not going to complain much.
Just think Balogun would be a better “starter” for us.
