Fábio Vieira

That was an outrageous cameo from him. Hopefully him and ESR stay fit finally and are able to help in the second half of the season.

Got talent, but not convinced he’s got enough character about him. Seems passive.

Had high hopes early in the season, but hard to see him making a matk here.

Vieira wasn’t being entrusted with minutes by Arteta. It’s hard to be too excited with the prospect of him coming off the bench for 10 minutes at a time.

Weak, waste of money.

Poundland Bernardo Silva and even that is kind

Been a real disappointment. We spent a lot of money on him and Sambi. Neither have really worked out. Now Edu has to figure out a way to exit them for real money and not loans.

I doubt Vieira is going anywhere in the foreseeable future.

He’ll end up with more appearances on our training videos than the first team.

He was very involved this season until his injury that required a surgery.

At one point he claimed that left 8 spot. He picked up another small injury that gave Havertz an opening to claim that spot back(which he did).

So I don’t think “Vieira wasn’t being entrusted with minutes by Arteta”, but moreso “Vieira wasn’t available enough to be entrusted more minutes by Arteta”.

Sambi cost 17m, pretty much just a punt these days. Crazy that that was pretty much what we paid for Arshavin as our record signing a little over 10 years prior.

Vieira’s last League start was the Spurs game in September when he was taken off after 45 minutes (possible knock). He’s then been benched for 8 of the next 10 games (not including Brentford game) only managing a start versus Leicester in the League Cup. Got dropped from the matchday squad for the game against Chelsea.

As there was no mention as to why Vieira was dropped from the matchday squad, it all-but-confirmed he was fit and available for selection. In reality, there’s not a lot to read into the 23-year-old’s absence, firstly football.london understands the playmaker is not injured and it was simply a decision taken by Arteta when naming his travelling party.

After his red card, he got demoted 3 days later for an under-21 football game. He hasn’t been seen since due to his op.

50m on Sambi and Vieira when Maddison or Sbozalai cost similar. Add Havertz and that is near enough 120m trying to sort out the 8 role.

I wonder if it’s more a mental thing with Vieira due to the physicality and speed of the game in this country. Certainly looked a player in his Porto clips. Still has a chance to turn his time here into a positive but that will have to start happening very soon as Arteta will need to start being ruthless if the plan is to take us to the next level and keep us there.

He’s in a weird spot because he’s shown some great stuff at times but he and his game time have been inconsistent, he’s had some injuries and he’s 23 which is obviosuly young but he’ll be 24 in May and another difficult season or two and you start to get into that territory of not fulfilling potential.

I still want to see a bit more of him personally before any thoughts of it not having worked out.

Does anybody know what he actually does? That sounds more disrespectful than it should.

Havertz, wins duels and makes penetrating runs into the box - he’s also a goal threat. Trossard is a technician, who can open up space with silky feet - he’s a risk taker and a goal threat. Even ESR is a progressive ball cartier, who osseses goal threat by clever off the ball running.

Vieira is good at theough balls and free kicks, but I can’t actually define what he would bring to our team. It isn’t ball retention or control from what I’ve seen.

Vieira has a very good final ball. Arguably the best in the squad.

I’d agree with that. Not sure if that justifies a place in our team.

I’m just taking a roundabout route of saying he needs to impose himself more or contribute more.

Against teams that camp men behind the ball, he should always be in consideration for a spot in the starting 11. Being able to pick a pass becomes critical in those games

Arteta’s talent ID is questionable. So many flops.

Probably gets more right than wrong. My question is why he signs players but seens not to trust them? Examples being Trossard, Kiwior, V***ra, Lokonga. That’s 80m worth of talent. His big money signings ave been good though. Those being Partey, Jesus and Rice. Jury is out on Havertz.

He’s a Pep disciple, so it’s expected he signs a few guys and never plays them like Pep lol
