for @Aussiegooner
Lmao
Of course I’ll praise them for making the exact type of transfer I said we should be making like a week ago
LFG. Signing time!
The logical culmination of almost 20 years of people writing that we’ve never truly replaced Vieira.
Very good signing.
No concerns about Fabio Vieira, very good player, talented and young. In portugal media the deal will be 35+5M€. Porto is in the “red” financially since a few years (Diaz in the winter for that price …) and need to sell to mee the financial fairplay (and pay wages).
As a player he’s very good. Good vision, pass, technique and the ball has glue on his foot. He’s better on a 433 as a midfielder than 422 as “8”.
The side down is if he’s ready for the intensity of a Premier League midfielder and who’s aiming to finish the top4?
Very good signing, as a Benfica fan. Well done. (yes, he would play in Liverpool squad in that 433.)
Can he ride a challenge? How physical is the Portuguese league? If he signs here, I assume he’ll have the shit kicked out of him for a bit.
Bruno and Diaz hit the ground running.
No reason why he can’t here aswell but arsenal fans are permanently depressed
Oh I hope he can too. I’m just trying to figure out who doesn’t play in our current midfield set up if we sign him.
Could he displace Xhaka? Would that be too little “physicality” for Arteta’s taste?
To me he sounds mainly like an alternative or even competition for Odegaard/Saka.
I think he rotates with Odegaard and Saka, at least for his first season.
Not only would him and Odegaard together in midfield be very lightweight, but Vieira is very young (just turned 22) and inexperienced. Last year was really his first year playing regular senior level football and he only began starting regularly over the winter. I really don’t see Arteta dropping him into an unfamiliar starting left 8 role from the beginning.
Hoping the Tielemans rumours are still true, might mean we’re selling Xhaka if we get both
Tielemans/Xhaka Odegaard/Vieira
Partey/Lokonga
Looks like a proper midfield to me, depth for all three positions, good variety and varying levels of experience.
I quite like the sound of that. Saka is going to be jelly by the time January rolls around. At least Odegaard isn’t going to the WC.
Spurs co-sign.
I don’t know too much about him as he’s a Porto player but there were a few rumblings a couple of days ago about him
Nopleasedont said it all really and if a Benfica fan is singing his praises he can’t be too bad.
Gonna be exciting to see him playing on loan for Lille or some other french club this season
Funny I was listening to Charles Watts Q&A yesterday and he made a comment about nothing being close, and that a deal could come out of nowhere, but how likely was that…and yet here we are! Assuming this is all accurate of course! Well to all those who were moaning about lack of activity…here we go!
In terms of the player, the age profile and technical ability seems to match the type of player we have been targeting. After reading all the posts seems like a good signing (I am not going to pretend to know anything about this guy) but will defer to others. From what I can tell, I don’t see how this affects us signing another CM player like a Tielemans, who could play in a deeper No.8 role. Not sure where this leaves us with Raphinha or Gnabry, particularly the former, as he also plays on the right wing.
Wow if you get wrapped up in work for even two hours a whole signing can just pop up out the blue. So we’re on the move now finally #thankfuck
My mate dropped his name in a chat and I genuinely thought it was a joke before googling. The name sounded too trollish this time of year to believe, had me cracking up.
