Maguire is still on the same side as the linesman too. The active thing is kinda up for debate. I feel like it’s pretty hard to not be active there because the player influences the position of the defenders but yeah not everyone sees it that way.
I agree on the active part, if you’re on the pitch you’re active IMO because just existing in a dangerous position is influencing the defenders. Unfortunately those aren’t the rules these days.
The rules do cover “making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball”. Some would argue he is far enough away but realistically in real time the defender has no idea where the ball is going at the exact time it’s played.
Although they have allowed much worse examples to stand too e.g. standing offside in front of the keeper.
