Euro 2020

Not sure why it has to be like that, Srcjj made a very good post earlier about how it was completely unsportsmanlike, doesn’t make him any less of an England fan or mean that he should enjoy the final any less than someone who thinks its ok.

Feels like there’s a few in here could justify pushing their gran down a flight of stairs if it aligned with getting what they want. Been a theme in a few threads tbh.

Huh? He saved the penalty and the laser was on his cheek :rofl:

I don’t know why there’s an expectation that England fans should really care as much as people who hate England do, I just don’t. I can accept it was cheating and just not really give a huge shit. Everyone cheats. You’d really rather not see it, and I’m happy to call it out for what it is when I do see it from my own side, but why am I going to spend my energy focusing on it instead of being happy.

If a Northern Ireland player dived to get you to a final I’m sure you’d acknowledge it being cheating, but I doubt you’d be banging on about how bad you feel for the Danes as much as you might do when its not your team who just beat them.

But I’ve not really seen people in this thread being like “Harry Kane is a great bloke who would never dive or risk an opponent getting an injury” which is what would constitute hypocrisy for me after spending five years saying the exact opposite. Not getting upset about it when he’s doing it for a team we support seems less like hypocrisy and just the nature of being a football fan. When United players were dirty towards our players I was furious, but when Lauren kicked Ronaldo about four foot up in the air I fucking loved it. I did not pause to say that it was really dirty of Lauren and that actually he should not be doing such violent things on a football pitch. I highly doubt any of us did, despite being furious about our players getting the same in previous encounters.

What game was that, then

My team and set of fans have done loads to make me ashamed, far worse than diving. How they’ve treated people from my own country due to sectarian hatred and where their politic values lie has been nothing but abhorrent in my lifetime of going to Windsor Park. Truthfully it has tarnished my love for the team greatly tbh, and my pride to consider myself a Northern Ireland fan.

Listen I’m not so naive that I believe every team has to behave fairly, or treat away fans or even their own with respect. It’s just what i expect the team I love to do and you can’t imagine or begin to tell me how that wouldn’t still negatively affect my love for my national team success or failure. It’s something I feel I can be critical of and always will whether I never see us qualify for a major tournament again.

I’ll never been someone who will look to make excuses for it.

I remember in the past at times England being criticised for not partaking enough in the dark arts of the game at international level with the European refs, and now we have Voldemort himself upfront.

Oh come on, he didn’t need to go down. But it’s part of the game now. You almost wonder if they practise it in training

What? When? :joy:

Practically every England WC exit in my lifetime has been down to some sort of shithousery.

There’s plenty of criticisms of England fans I can get behind, I guess calls of hypocrisy for not caring enough about our players diving doesn’t meet my personal, arbitrary threshold. For most of us this is the first ever final we’ve seen our team reach, we’re a bit preoccupied.

Fair enough though, I respect your opinion and way of articulating it, agree to disagree.

It’s not like we have a ton of good material to work with. The team is talented, neutral to likable, the coach seems like a decent guy, the football is a little stiff but it’s not Greece 2004.

So what do we have left? Just shitting on nationalism in general, the English tabloids and their shabby coverage of guys like Sterling, entitlement among English fans and the English cuisine. That’s all we got.

I don’t know man I think your once annoyingly strong moral compass is just crumbing under this cup run. I feel like one more win and you’ll be reborn as Jakeyjoyjoy.

Hang on, I only commented on srcjj’s in regards to wishing we scored more goals rather than time wasting. I didn’t appreciate the robbed narrative when other teams do it, it doesn’t seem like such a big deal? I wasn’t being 2 sided I didn’t defend diving only questioning the robbed side of things. Srcjj even liked my post.

And this drunk people thing has been twisted beyond belief I never said being drunk was an excuse.

I couldn’t resist I’ve never seen them on the same team before haha, I’m only teasing lads. If you win I’ll mute this thread into oblivion anyway

I feel like one more win for England will see you reach the levels of bitterness towards England usually only displayed by our Scottish cousins.
