Ethan Nwaneri (53)

I just simply forgot that, Trossard did not play on Wednesday.

I hope so but I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t.

I think during the Wenger era and under Emery, we saw a lot of opportunities for youngsters. I remember enjoying Carling cup so much under Wenger because he would go all out with the youngsters.

Arteta has been our coach for 3 years and I don’t think he has been so comfortable in bringing youngsters on, even if it’s for 10/15 mins.

But then again Arteta knows better than us. With Saliba the two year loan spell transformed him; same can apply to Patino who I’m sure will be integrated into the first team next season.

I hope so. They need to have a bone thrown their way and a chance to show what they have.

Emery was forced to use youngsters tbf. That was the whole point they promoted Freddie and made him his assistant.

I think Arteta just doesn’t want to gift minutes to someone because they’re young or have hype behind them.

The culture he’s trying to instill is that the team doesn’t go from match to match but from training to training. He’s spoken a lot about how in awe he was with the competitiveness at City. That’s what he wants to create here.
To do that you can’t give certain players chances without deserving them.

I can’t really fault it because the turnaround of this team in his time here is truly marvellous. I don’t think people have realized yet how revolutionary he’s been for us. We were truly in the gutter four years ago.

To be fair to Arteta, the average age of our players is 24.x… there is no hurry to promote that many youngsters to first team at this moment.

Unlike the Wenger teams…

Fair enough but he could have done it to take some minutes away from players coming back from injury and players playing lots of minutes.

Wenger’s carling cup experiments except that one run was a waste of time. Who was the main beneficiary of that…Kieran Gibbs?

We had some hyped players in those runs.

Karbasiyoon
Lupoli
Merida
Vela

Never really had a defender coming through apart from that lad who went to Rangers in the end.

As you say, a shame the experiments weren’t more fruitful.

Jack wilshere had some pop off league cup games.

It’s an interesting stage for this next band of youth players. I don’t see the issue with Nwaneri or MLS not starting the other night. We’ve had the likes of Walters et al make the bench on multiple occasions with very little clamour from Arsenal fans to see him get minutes.

I agree with @GC-Maniac that the ā€˜culture’ is important and something Arteta is dead set on maintaining. If we also start giving these guys minutes early on the expectations from all sides will have increased for some green horn youth guys.

Ultimately, they’re caught between being too young to be loaned out and highly considered for minutes and to really have any serious output in the first team at Arsenal. The next CL game might have an opening for them to get some minutes but even then, I think we’ll likely see our second string ā€˜first team’ get them and rightly so.

Starting to sound like a broken record, but I feel this kid is ready for Prime Time. Would love to see what he’s capable of amongst our current crop.

The grammar may not be on point, and it’s stretching things somewhat, but what can you do? Gotta keep up with my OA peers with the shitty puns.

How many minutes of him playing have you seen that wasnt YouTube or twitter?

Hmm, none in the youth team. Mostly has been YT & Twitter compilations.

But I recall watching him playing once with the senior team last season I think.

Yea he literally came on with a minute to go in a already well won game against Brentford last season. He did perfectly fine too.

Id happily see him start the game against PSV but we’re in too serious a position here to throw him in for a meaningful game at this stage.

Beg Mikel to start him vs PSV.

Would be great experience regardless in a European away game, tough ask normally but dead game for us makes it a great chance to see what he’s got.
