Ethan Nwaneri (53)

I would definitely love to see more of him. I think Arteta is being a bit too cautious and conservative with his introduction into the team.

I’m not asking him to start every game or anything like that.
I was actually against pushing him in those games against City or Spurs when many suggested he should start.
But playing more than some odd 10-15 minutes against teams like Bournemouth, Southampton, Leicester, or even getting some time in that PSG game, isn’t much to ask.

I think even Nwaneri is somewhat frustrated at this point. No matter how young he is, he’s aware of his own quality.

Two things can be true at once. The midfield selection was wrong- far too conservative. Starting Nwaneri in an away game where we need to win to go top is unnecessary.

Do we start him against Liverpool then? Because Idegaard won’t be fit.

It’s not unnecessary though

We don’t have Saka or Odegaard, this guy made the club sell other attacking players

You can’t think of it in that way because if you do then it means they fucked up by not signing more attackers

Period

Would you start him next Sunday?

That’s got nothing to do with today

If he’s ready and Odegaard isn’t going to back, I don’t get why you would hold him back next week?

Saka will be back though no?

So it isn’t the same situation and it’s a different level of opposition also, just because you play him away to Bournemouth doesn’t mean that you need to start him at home to Liverpool so I don’t get the relevance of the question

Saka doesn’t play in Nwaneri’ position, so who would you play in central midfield out of interest? A minute ago his situation was being compared to that of Yamato.

Nwaneri off the bench and starting Carabao games is fine for me.

Like I said if that is how he is going to be utilised then it doesn’t square with the business they did in the summer.

You say he’s 17 as if that should be barrier, especially in a team that is down 2 key players?

Lame from Arteta and it doesn’t help the tram

We’ll have to agree to disagree. If we don’t go down to ten, he probably comes in in the second half with a chance to help us win the game.

People were screaming out for him against Spurs and he wasn’t needed.

ESR and Vieira barely started any league games last year. Easy to replace that with Merino and Nwaneri.

No need to go to the Liverpool game already.

I think he should be a serious option to start against Shaktar. If not that, he should get a half an hour at least.

And that’s an issue regarding ESR and Viera especially if it would’ve happened if Saka and Odegaard were not playing

Merino shouldn’t even be mentioned there, he isn’t an attacker

Your view of Nwaneri makes no sense considering the players we have at our disposal

Without Yamal playing for Barca first team, how else did you determine Yamal today is a generational talent?

No desperation. The game required creativity and he should have come on far earlier considering we don’t have likes of Viera/ESR anymore.

Bringing on a kid, away from home, with ten men is a very desperate act.

We have Trossard and Havertz at our disposal. Starting Nwaneri is less sensible.

You’d think he had an exciting cameo today for people to call for him to start.
Barely got involved, in the few attempts he tried to do so Bournemouth players read him pretty easily.

Who both started, no idea what the hell you’re on about at this point.

@GC-Maniac: oh yeah lets judge him in a short cameo down to ten men when the game is gone eh? Jesus was so so impressive though yeah?

Jesus Christ! Are you seriously this hard headed? Or, just dense??

It is ficking obvious what the point is. With Martinelli and Jesus in the bench, Trossard or Havertz dropping into the creative role makes more sense than Nwaneri starting. Bored now.

Well, he was. What have you seen from Nwaneri today that made you regret not starting him? His bad crosses straight to Bournemouth players or the duels he went for and lost them all?

I thought his Leicester cameo was impressive but we’re talking about an away game here against a tougher(for me) team.

Clearly a very talented player and he’ll get his chances today but I don’t get who he would start over today. Sterling maybe? In which case, we lose all the threat in behind, which was evident when we subbed him off and Trossard stayed on instead.

You can’t throw someone on for less than ten minutes and expect that they will contribute compared to starting them from the get go especially when you’re down to ten men

What he showed a man down playing for ten minutes isn’t necessarily what he would have showed with more time and having one less teammate to play with

Its not even remotely comparable
