Ethan Nwaneri (22)

I think Arteta has done really well with Nwaneri. I read somewhere he has already clocked more minutes than Saka and Foden combined at the same age.

Id say its about 50/50 that he would have been a difference maker in Odes absence. But if that goes the way you don’t want it to then it could be really detrimental to the player.

I think we see a different approach if we are 5 games out and facing an ode absence again.

These are the kind of conditions that he can thrive in. We are nearly at full strength in midfield and attack, so there is no reliance on Nwaneri to deliver. Very positive cameo today.

Don’t you find this a bit rich to say? Let me quote you:

You know exactly which post I’m referring to. Act delusional all you like.

The exact movement you criticised him for v Inter is the exact movement that led to the 3rd goal lol. Take ownership.

No I don’t. He carries the same aura Fabregas did during his debut season. If anything today’s cameo further solidifies my statement. Let me not even talk about Ethan’s consistency at International level.

He just isn’t performing at that level. Confirmation bias on your part by just repeating it.

I said he tried the same thing that got him the goal against Preston and that he got bitched off the ball after getting main character syndrome and he did.

He’s got a lot to learn. He’s very talented, but expectations from some quarters have gone through the roof so much so that some can’t even see when he has moments like that that show that he’s not ready to be a first team starter yet.

Nothing like Fabregas, come on. It was an intentional comparison to hype up the kid. It was straight out of twitter football.

Even with that aside, I don’t even think it’s helpful. Title contending team throws enormous unnecessary expectation in a kid. Do the degree we’re going to slam the coach over it. This dynamic helps nobody.

I was talking about aura during debut though. If we want to start the topic of competing on the same level, then in 03-04, Fabregas only made an impact in the League Cup with a goal, didn’t get a single start in the PL or produce output. Ethan on the other hand, has already scored in the League Cup and now PL. Also consistently, scoring or assisting at International level; playing with players ahead of his peers in terms of age.

Remember Ethan is showcasing all of this where the quality of football, tactics has upgraded massively since past 20 years; low mid table clubs are far more competitive. Under a manager who really isn’t known for giving youngsters a chance whereas Wenger was far more liberal with youngsters and expressive in tactics.

Taking that all into context and other factors - I firmly stick with my statement that Ethan carries the same young Fabregas did when he ‘debuted.’

I’m really happy with the pace at which he’s being integrated into the team. This is genuinely how it should be.

You can tell at this early stage he has the knack of a goalscorer.

He reminds me of Lampard more than Fabregas and if he is even half as good as Lampard we will be in for a treat

Nah, I don’t see Fabregas nor Lampard in him.

You don’t have to look way in the past either. Foden is the closest thing profile wise.

Ethan is him. He is Ethan.
Nwaneri. Chidiebere Nwaneri.

No need to make all the comparisons.

I am impatient about seeing him more as he is so good he can contribute now but it is true that the way he is being surely brought through is the mark of a big well run club instead of over playing him expecting him to be a saviour.

He is only 17. Need to give him the minutes but also respect that he is a raw talent.

No

He does have a bit of Shakiri in him now that you’re mentioning it

Being a Chelsea fan growing up, I see a bit of John Obi Mikel in Nwaneri.

Special kid. Need to tie him down to a long contract.
