It looks like they’ve been to Poundland to get their mile of England bunting for a quid deal.
Your neck of the woods roughly, right? You ever been over to see it. They always play a blinder at tournament time.
Yeah roughly, I was Walworth way to the east of Burgess Park.
Never been to Kirby, although it reminds me alot of the estate I grew up on around tournament time.
Maybe its just seeing through the lens of as a kid but support for ENG seemed particularly fervent for tournaments in the 00s.
I walk around London now and you barely see decorated houses
If England win the Euros, gonna give £5 to everyone who likes this post.
Am not a nationalist at all, far from it, but this is brilliant. I remember being a child and seeing England flags everywhere at the time of a major tournament. You hardly see any now. Sad really.
I might have to stay off social media for a while. It’d be unbearable
Interesting, that. Nothing wrong with being proud of your country, of course, but I’m a bit surprised to hear you say that flag display wasn’t a thing when you were young - the proviso being I don’t know how old you are. When I was young (awful cliché, I know), there was none of this mass display of flags, etc. - no, Poundland hadn’t been born, but it seemed to me on various visits back to England that all this fervour welled up in the 90s/00s. Funny thing, it always looked crass to me. Still does. I always associated flag waving/jingoism with America.
On the contrary, I’m saying flag waving was a huge thing when I was a child, 25-30 years ago. Flags draped from car windows and house windows alike.
As a child always linked it to being an English thing. Granted, the Americans take being patriotic to a new level!
There we are then, I was about right with my time estimation - 90’s, etc. It became very noticeable on visits to England in that period, in contrast to my era of growing up there in the 50’s/60’s. The exception of course being 1966 when the fervour ramped up a bit. Funny thing, but it didn’t seem to sustain much beyond that. I’m curious, now, as to what drove the resurgence in the 90’s and onwards.
Oh, no, to be clear, I’m suggesting that flags came out for events - not because it was Tuesday!
There is not one England flag on the street that I live in for example and this is a high-majority, white-English, working-class area.
Goals galore and good games. Get ready for the worst 1-0 to Ingurland!
We’re going to win 3-0. But it’s going to be a shit game.
We will cruise this group. But for the England haters: I have no idea why we are favourites. We will play France in the semi final and get smashed because Southgate is a prick. France will go on to beat Portugal in the final.
Thank god Southgate is going. Our best players are young enough to blossom at the next tournament though
How can you win 3-0 and it is shit?
Have you never watched England? It’ll probably be 2 penalties that Kane falls over to win, and a Declan Rice wonder goal.
Can’t complain and won’t complain a 3-0 win.
enjoyable or not, this is exactly what I expect to happen haha
Are you sure that the genius minds that put Southgate in charge will now make better choice?
I live on this estate LOL! It’s about a kilometre and a half away but this is such stark contrast to the street that I live on.
After the first 25 mins it was completely uninspiring. The manager didn’t adjust one bit to the demands of the game and relied purely on raw talent and desperate long ball, defensive football to see it through. Pickford’s aimless and outdated long balls are truly jarring to watch in an era of playing out from the back. The decision making and fluidity just fell of a cliff and the likes of Foden and Kane were clearly struggling.
There wasn’t a single move coming from the left side and it was obviously a second half where we needed to stretch the opposition. No Gordon or Watkins coming on was a sham. This team plays fucking awful football the minute the flow of the game changes especially for the talent at its disposal. A decent side would have punished us heavily tonight. Pathetic from Southgate once again.
Only the defensive side of our play deserved any praise.
Taking the lead and trying to play out the rest of the game like Italians, except there’s always a sense of jeopardy.
I’ll give Saka the praise he deserves, as he was beating his man time and time again, but the tactics were so dire, even he faded from the game once the team went full Southgate.
Foden and Trent are not a fit for this team. Despite being a very very very ugly man, I’d rather see Gordon occupying that left attacking position. Whilst being the less talented, I still think he’d offer more than the council house chav from man c💩ty.
Harry Kane holds the ball up like Stephen Hawking holds a piss.
