ESR, Tomiyasu should be cup rotation players.
I remember reading an article about him where he said he really had an interest in being a dentist and then learned his hands were too big to do it. It was kind of sad.
Superb
This makes me incredibly happy
Replace Xhaka with Emile
Merry Christmas everyone
Football.London is the source btw.
This is what most of us suspected as his future role.
However, right now he’s finishing most games as an unused sub, 4 months after returning from his injury.
Immensely talented but it seems that injuries will follow him for the rest of his career.
No doubt He could okay the xhaka role on a very high level. Maybe we gonna see it this season.
Is it injuries keeping him out of the team now though? He had surgery specifically to stop the same injuries popping up again. This looks a lot like the manager biding his time with Smith-Rowe.
Highly doubt it’s a straightforward transition for him to take on the midfield role when he’s only played wide and behind the striker previously. Not really known for his range of passing or his defensive work rate yet.
Breh He couldnt even handle 20 mins against BMouth. He was gassed.
He has All the talent in the world but his boet seems feckd
I think he needs a solid pre-season to find his feet again. He has looked off the pace and not match fit - but I think he has the potential to fulfil the Xhaka role. As @Hass says, I doubt it is a straight-forward transition.
Interesting move if true, hope it works out.
That’s his only plausible route into the team.
After we first signed Odegaard, he played a role pretty similar to Xhaka’s current role in possession, in that he was a LW who really played as a left sided attacking midfielder while Odegaard was a 10 that really played as a right sided attacking midfielder - basically ESR then and Xhaka now are the top left corner of a midfield box.
The big issue is what he can do out of possession and in transitions I think. Because Xhaka’s current role needs to be able to play centrally in a bank of four midfielders when defending deep and also be able to cover Zinchenko when he wanders all over the field.
I’m not confident of ESR acclimatising to this position (if it is indeed true) however, he has bags of talent and he could totally prove us wrong.
It would rule out a move for Mount if that’s the case.
I don’t want him to go but then if he’s barely here then what can you do?
Availability
He’s been back since January, no?
Not really an availability issue at the moment.
He still has 3-years on his contract, I expect the coming season will be the make or break for him.
From what I read on Football.London, he has been training well and setting PBs in training for strength and speed. In an interview he mentioned having taken diet more seriously too.
I think he has been behind Vieira in the pecking order (especially after injury/recovery), but that could easily change between now and start of next season
I’d it’s accurate it makes Artetas comments about not seeing what he needs from him (something like that) in training recently. It’s hard to buy he just isn’t pitting in the effort
He also probably doesn’t see the need to throw Vieira and ESR under the bus at the same time
Interesting move if true, hope it works out.
Does Brighton play with two eights? If not, seems like a waste of time to teach him the position.
No he had a setback after that fa cup game (Oxford) and was available from mid-late feb again after that from what I recall.
