Elon Musk (and Ex Twitter)

Thought this story was well put together. The schellenberger threads are boring.

Overall these files are pretty boring. FBI make bad judgements every day you’d imagine.

Are you running defence for the fbi

By saying they make bad decisions every day? Yep. You’ve caught me out. Well done.

Leave my corporation daddy alone!!’ :bellcry:

Boring is correct. Its basically red meat for the right leaning folks in the US.

I wouldn’t dismiss the FBI’s role in suppressing the laptop story as just a bad judgement tbh. They prompted twitter to censor a news organisation and individuals in covering a legitimate story based on flimsy grounds. That’s a gross violation of citizens rights to speech that should concern all Americans. The reasons why it doesnt is because one side is seen of the beneficiary for Russian “disinformation” which itself has become a phony justification to censor Americans. Its like Mccarthism

The twitter files highlight the dangers of big government, excess government and highly politicised federal agencies abusing power.

A private company committed to free speech should be resisting the government at every turn when comes to situations like this. I suspect things like this could have been avoided if twitter was transparent and their senior management didn’t all have a leftwing slant

Twitter pulling that story was way bigger news than the actual story, which still existed. I read it because twitter pulled it. I doubt I would otherwise have heard about it. That genuinely could have been the play all along for all we know.

I’m happy with my characterisation of bad decision making. At the end of the day the FBI doesn’t act as a single organism. You have individuals, or small groups of them, making decisions ‘in the best interests of America’ and like this one they are often bad decisions. I’m not inclined to believe in conspiracy (not saying you or anyone else is either) and I don’t see one here. The FBI didn’t do this, some muppets who work there did.

Twitter doesn’t owe anyone a platform and it never has. If they choose to edit or remove content that’s their choice and I have no problem with it.

@sevchenko just because you seem to have a good handle on the Twitter files stuff… did they release the full blacklist of people who were shadow banned/had their reach limited? Or was selective information released essentially at Musk’s behest?

I see them highlight Charlie Kirk, Libs of TikTok and a couple other right wing people/accounts as having their reach limited, were we just given a handful of examples or were those highlighted examples taken from the full list which is also public?

I have a passing interest tbh the thread format is terrible UI for me

I don’t recall a full comprehensive list affected accounts being shared. I think its been balanced in the sense that the files itself has discclosed and acknowledge that twitter did respond to and actioned tweet reviews on behalf of the GOP/team trump during the election but it wasn’t made clear if any prominent accounts were caught by this directly.

Their point was the volume of requests from the DNC/team biden was much higher and actioned more promptly because of allegedly similar politically leanings and contacts at twitter.

I think it’s reasonably to assume some anti trump accounts were “shadowbanned” (depending on how you define the term) because their rhetoric previously did or was consistently close to violating twitter policy. Eg kathy griffin or bette midler

Deniers and tin foil hats found enough info and semi science anyway.

Only the US maintains a covid vaccine mandate to travel to. The rest of the actual developed world stopped all covid measurements.

Covid skeptics have by large been proven right.

Sorry but you’re going to have to be more specific than this. COVID deniers covers a wide spectrum and what exactly they’ve been proved right about remains at least debatable (as it does from the other side too).

Sure sure :slightly_smiling_face:

When I list government related problems, this is from the vantage point of what the Dutch government did. I cannot assess all other nations’ governments and implementation their measurements.

  • Pfizer did not know whether Covid vaccine stopped transmission before rollout.
  • Covid vaccines have been rushed. Vaccinated people still can and do infect other people. Consequently the lockdowns and measurements have been largely nonsensical, discriminatory and ineffective. Ultimately, unnecessary.

  • Corruption and bribes: pfizer / EU / Von der Leyen.

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/eus-von-der-leyen-cant-find-texts-with-pfizer-chief-vaccine-deal-letter-2022-06-29/

  • Government policies have been inconsistent, largely detrimental to the fabric of society. Lockdowns have been a contributing factor to loneliness, suicide and other mental illnesses.

  • Covid and its deadliness have been exaggerated from the onset.

As for the US, it’s such a wasteland of homelessness, poverty and racism that it doesn’t surprise me it is still implementing covid-mandate to enter the country. Anything to keep the people vaccinated and the undesired (poor immigrants) out.

Look at China and see what lack of proper Covid vaccination can do to a country.

Compare that to us in Europe who are basically back to normal almost
