who do we have that’s currently on this deal?
Ask yourself the question. Why would Marseille and Arsenal do a loan if the transfer is made permanent this season?
Season being this financial year.
Also arsenals financial year ends May 31st.
Think Tavares & Sambi Lokonga
God is Good. A little telling that we had to push it out by a year but getting him off the books is tremendous.
Will always be a dumb contract in my eyes but Edu did well to make a chicken salad from chicken shit.
How are you still doubling down on it being a dumb contract
We’re getting €30m for someone who was leaving for free. And we also got plenty of use from him and he stepped in to do the job when he was needed and ultimately we’ve outgrown him.
It’s ridiculous you still think it’s a valid point.
I know reading comprehension isn’t your strong suit but I’ve made my opinion very clear over many posts about the contract being dumb because of what I think of the player but being happy if we are able to move him. It’s entirely possible to juggle more than one idea in your head at a time.
No hard feelings. Just wasn’t good enough for a big club. Good luck in France, Eddie.
You literally write “will always be a dumb contract in my eyes” and I responded directly to that.
Instead of being catty and questioning my reading comprehension just accept it’s a really shit point and no matter how many times you put it out into the atmosphere it’s never going to be anything other than a shit point.
But shit points are par for the course for you which is a concern given you apparently practice law.
Oh no! The smuggest jerk on the OA said I had bad opinions! How will I ever cope???
Look, it is possible to hold these ideas at the same time:
- Eddie was not good enough to earn a new contract on 100k/wk from the club
- The club took a calculated risk to give him that contract because the club felt it was safer and/or cheaper than hitting the market and I disagree with that
- Eddie has not performed to the level after getting that contract
- It is a good thing and good work that we are selling him despite the fact he did not perform up to the level of 100k/wk
The contract was a bad contract.
The sale is a good sale.
The fact he was on a contract which kept him at the club long enough to make the sale doesn’t change my opinion that it was a bad contract.
I don’t know how else to explain the concept of holding multiple ideas at once to you. Think of it like this:
- You have a very strong and deep knowledge of Serie A both past and present which I respect
- You’re an ass
Two different ideas, both totally possible to hold at once.
Not reading that shit mate
Too many compound syllables for you?
30mil for Nketiah would be one of Edu’s top deals, hoping it goes through.
I hope he does well for them, always enjoy seeing English players do well abroad
Ngl this cracked me up
If Arsenal didn’t give Nketiah the contract, he goes for wayyy less than £30m
He leaves for free mate. His contract was about to expire he signed the extension in June 22 and would have expired July 1
One doesn’t happen without the another.
So let’s frame it this way - Eddie Nketiah didn’t deserve the contract based on his ability & contribution but Arsenal made the right decision by giving him the contract because we are going to make a profit of 25m.
If your argument is that keeping Eddie stopped us from signing someone else, then I disagree.
We signed Raya while keeping Ramsdale. We could have surely signed someone else despite signing Nketiah to a new contract.
signing someone new, you need to pay the transfer fee and his salary
keeping Eddie, we just need to pay his salary.
If we signed someone that was better than Eddie, then the transfer fee would be a significant amount, and his salary would not be cheap either.
If we signed someone that was around Eddie’s level, Arteta was not going to use him much.
Basically we were having a Eddie II. No point of doing that.
Don’t want to pile on @Joshua here but I can’t understand how extending Nketiah at the time was a bad move from Arsenal’s POV.
He was our only senior striker and was coming off a great off a great end of the season once he was given an opportunity to start.
