Eddie Nketiah

This guy being aggregated is a Marseille specific football journalist for Canal+.

He also says both Auba and Saliba have told Eddie that Marseille would be a good club for him.

I would absolutely take 25m euro and a sell on clause.

I thought Marseille are rolling in it these days.

That being the case, might well mean there are other clubs in the wings who are watching and waiting, and Edu is guaging the situation closely. After all, regardless of all the pontification on here, (yeah, I know it’s fun and all that), but it’s que sera sera.

Yeah, his market seems dry let’s be honest

Sure it’s possible that behind the scenes teams could be tripping over themselves but that doesn’t seem likely

Some of the clubs you’d think would be interested have gone in different directions which is telling

It wasn’t just his value. @Trion has pointed out his contract specifics for you.

It was also the cost that Arsenal would have had to pay for a backup striker at the time. Given the dearth of quality/prospects at the time, Eddie’s contract was a much better value for the club at the time of keeping a player that Arteta knows that he can use if needed rather than the transfer fee would have been for a prospect.

Btw, just the past window Palace wanted Eddie and we didn’t want to let him go so I don’t get this whole “we’re desperate to sell and nobody’s interested”.

It’s very likely Eddie is currently prioritising Marseille and working with RDZ given that he’s already agreed personal terms with them.

Or they were interested and aren’t anymore especially considering Mateta balled out for the rest of the season.

Still points to shrinking options

What do you mean Eddie isn’t a PL proven player? We’re talking about a guy with over 150 appearances for Arsenal including about 70-80 in the last two seasons alone.

People are just making stuff up at this point. He’s not good enough to be a starting striker for Arsenal but to say he isn’t proven as a PL player is just completely wrong.

With his wages £20m would be fine.

If we can get a little more I’d be happy

how many of those games were substitutions? substitutions for the last 10 minutes? substitutions when the game was decided?
The one game that “meant” something for me was the Bayern game 2nd leg in the CL; but then, most people thought he would not make a difference in that appearance and he was just not good enough to make a difference.

obviously the term “PL Proven” has a different meaning to you and I.

You can’t say someone is not proven in the PL when they’ve got over 150 games playing for one of the traditional big clubs.

His actual goals per minute ratio is not bad at all. It’s actually pretty damn good.

His strength is playing and starting games he’s never really been an effective sub it doesn’t suit his game.

Again- I can accept he’s not good enough for Arsenal but people are throwing around terms like he’s not PL proven and that’s categorically incorrect.

this is partly why I’m surprised at how low the fee from Marseille is…

even 25m EUR is chicken change, but let’s see what Edu can do.

Holding played a lot of games for us.
Chambers played a lot of games for us.
Number of games for us does not really mean the player is able to play for some other teams.

I believe Eddie could play for some teams in the PL, but I just don’t like the term “PL Proven”.

0.59G+A Per 90’ in the PL last season but not PL proven :man_shrugging:

To be fair, in the most games Eddie started over the last two seasons I think he looked more than capable of leading the line for a midtable PL team.

At times he looked quite underwhelming, but we know the standards are pretty high and and quite special here.

I could see him doing a pretty good job for teams like Fulham, Wolves, West Ham…

In how many appearances?

I get the gist of what @ronniec is getting at, yeah he’s played in a big club but PL proven means what? He’s never scored double figures at any point in his senior career and his finishing is far from great. He hasn’t really proven that he can be the guy.

Signing him is still a gamble even for a PL club, he isn’t a sure thing.

@Pires: And yet the last two aren’t looking at him especially West Ham who have been considering others instead of.

You literally haven’t got a clue who is or isn’t looking at him. Not a clue.

He’s also never started enough games for us to justifiably expect him to be in double figures.

He has a goals to game ratio that suggests if he started 30+ games he’d comfortably into double figures.

Which is why saying he’s PL proven means didly squat

He has proven he can be a decent backup when asked to deputise for a very short period that’s it, he hasn’t proven that he can be the guy for a midtable team sure you can argue it based on a rinky dink sample size but has he actually proven it? I don’t think you can and it definitely can’t be said that’s reliable season to season.

As for the who’s looking at him part OK yes that we know of, perhaps better to say that has been reported up until now.

He is PL proven he’s got a goals to minute ratio of a goal every 2 games and that’s a goodie expect. He’s also got over 100 league appearances.

Saying he’s not PL proven is utter nonsense.
