Good player but his injuries make me nervous.
Same, for whatever reason the club is still interested.
Could be that someone key at the club(Arteta most likely) is that big of a fan of his.
I could see the argument that his minutes will be managed better here with better competition but I don’t think it really works that way.
Sure he should be shipped out, but what if noone offers us a good fee? People constantly bring up our failure to sell players for good fees but then we are deeply unserious when we actually put some pressure on to get one.
I want him gone but I want us to be able to also get a viable replacement whether that’s a forward or a wide player. It’ll be hard to do both things if we aren’t generating a good fee from Eddie.
Personally, I’d like us to approach Barca about Raphinha. They need to raise funds and are apparently open to letting most of the squad go for the right price. Reckon a loan with option/obligation to buy would be accepted.
We have also been linked with Neto. I like Olise and see Utd are linked today with him (reported release clause of £35m). Alternatively, maybe someone like Rayan Cherki from Lyon (who financially may also need to sell) or Yeremy Pino who we have previously been linked with. Also seen a link to Ibrahim Salah but don’t know enough about the player.

Tbh I’ve started to question his attitude (well the Lyon squad as a whole) but I do think we could get him at a decent price and take a punt.
What pressure? The tweet mentioned that he’s apparently part of our plans which we all know is ridiculous. That’s the part I think makes us unserious. Everyone knows he’s not a part of the project going forward and that come summer he’ll be third choice.
It does say he is part of our plans, but the next sentence says we could let him go if we bring in a striker. So I think that indicates that the respect in which he is viewed as part of our plans is as a squad member, not as one of our main hitters, and one that we consider clearly upgradeable. That doesn’t seem unserious to me, that seeems like an accurate summation of what Nketiah is to us. I think you can validly debate the idea of letting him go without buying a replacement, there are definite merits to both sides of that argument. On the one hand I see why people say take the fee regardless, Havertz or Trossard could deputise at CF if Jesus gets injured. But on the other hand, if that happens, Havertz currently starts for us in midfield, so him playing up front leaves a hole in midfield that isn’t easily filled. Also, atm it seems clear that thatshow Arteta views Havertz, not as an option at CF. If you rely on Trossard there, and Martinelli gets injured, you then have to start Nelson for a run of games, and frankly nobody wants that. So on that logic, I don’t think that it’s unserious if the club dont want to let him go without bringing someone in.
Of course this is a tweet, and not words issued by the club verbatim, but it makes sense that the club would want to give the impression that he is valued by Arsenal, because you will be hard pressed to get a decent fee for a player if the vibe you give off is that you think he is total shit and has no place at the club. It’s not a strong negotiating position. We’ve seen what it looks like in recent years when you try to get a decent fee, or any sort of fee, for a player the manager/club clearly considers to be useless to our plans.
I’d imagine this is probably what was meant when saying that we are putting pressure on to get a good fee for Nketiah.
That’s the big flaw for me. For a coach who spoke about versatility being a quality he wants from his players he’s overlooked a big part of what Havertz brings to the table just in his physical makeup.
That’s not the point though…yes Havertz can play in the CF role, but that isn’t his best position and others are more effective playing here, including Trossard. It’s clear Arteta sees his best position as a left-sided No.8.
I maintain that if you sell Eddie now without replacing him with a new striker we are weaker as a result. @JakeyBoy 's assessment of the arguments above was bang on.
How so? Our midfield is far stronger now with Rice and Havertz winning so many duels.
Yeah it’s stronger in some games but in other games you’d like to have another passer back there to take the burden off of Rice and Odegaard. I recognize that’s what Zinchenko is supposed to be doing by being creative and cutting in from the left.
But Havertz doesn’t have to play every game at the left eight. It’s okay if he plays some games at striker.
I appreciate that there’s an element of risk to letting someone like Eddie go midseason but I’d be willing to roll the dice on that considering I think the club have successfully boxed themselves in financially and won’t really be able to do anything of note in the market in January anyway. If everything goes sideways in the second half of the season, it’s not going to be because we’re missing the amazing output of Eddie. We know what he can do and it’s fine but if someone like Palace are getting desperate now, better to get that money now than give Palace the opportunity to look elsewhere.
I understand @JakeyBoy 's argument but I just don’t think we’re that much weaker without Eddie. I know what he offers and I’m generally underwhelmed by how it looks in our system. If we were willing to play a little bit more to his strengths, maybe I’d feel differently.
I just want to see a Partey- Rice- Odegaard midfield, I feel by far and away that would be our strongest midfield.
We wont see Partey again this season. His legs are finished.
Hopefully you are wrong, because ultimately it’s our best chance of going on a CL run.
He will need a brand new lower body transplant to get back on the pitch again. Cant remember the last time he played. Wasnt it summer time the last time we saw him? 25 degrees, suns out and that?
As a substitute vs Manchester City was the last we saw of him ![]()
It would be the best midfield in the PL.
With Partey in the team we look a lot stronger but because he won’t play much this season, it’s unlikely we’ll win the title.
And he played a vital role in the winning goal too.
Ffs how we have missed him.
Trossard is the best finisher in the team.
