I think they are…furthermore…and I state the same again…who do we replace him with in January! What top quality strikers are available that we can afford to buy???
I’m not sure two good players in every position will ever happen for us though unfortunately, I think that’s a false economy for most clubs and if that’s what it’ll take do win the league we may never reach that point.
Not sure why people think I’m opposed to Nketiah being sold. I’m actually advocating for it, just like a I did in the summer.
We shouldn’t sell him for the sake of it though. If we can find the right player out there and have resources to get him then by all means, go for it.
I would’ve liked for us to sell Nketiah in the summer and get Kudus.
I would like for us to get a Toney or a Solanke who are the better players at this stage in their career and offer a bigger frame to work with in the box.
Selling him without knowing we can replace adequately would be stupid.
Bringing “a body” to replace isn’t the move.
I don’t think we are far off from achieving this…as I said on the transfers thread, I think we are 4 transfers away from achieving this: LCB, CM, RW and Striker.
I’m not keen on either Toney or Solanke tbh, Toney is extremely overpriced and Solanke is just the flavour of the month.
A lot of couple of years ago DCL about them.
Hang on, the post you shared suggested the club won’t entertain offers unless they find another striker this month and you called them unserious for it.
That’s what me and I believe @The_Invincibles took issue with.
If we could sign Toney for a decent/reasonable fee, I’d be down for this and happy to sell Eddie to help fund the move. However, doubt this is doable in January and Brentford are going to command a significant fee for him.
100% agree with you about Solanke - he is just flavour of the month and there is nothing that indicates he can do the same at a bigger club.
Yep atm selling just about anyone without some incomings doesn’t make sense… we are lacking depth in attack, midfield, and potentially even wide defense in our current injury situation.
I think the only senior members that I think are genuinely peripheral members in the squad are Elneny and Cedric.
Hence why it looks like they’re both going this window.
Yeah and even El Neny you wonder about with Partey injured - what happens if Rice and/or Ode go down?
I mean they are way, way down pecking order so I get it (esp Cedric), but it just shows how important it is to get your squad right during the summers - winter is just for tweaks or tactical adds like a Trossard that might give you just a few more points.
I would add Nelson to that list as well…I think if all three go this transfer window, it would be a good window for outgoings.
Yeah I think that’s deeply flawed thinking. We can replace Eddie’s backup role with Havertz and/or Trossard. But also replace his spot in the squad with a winger.
I think Nelson, ESR and Vieira are in a category themselves. For me these 3 should be under the microscope if they stay with us for the remainder of the season.
If they fail to contribute in a significant way, whether that’s because they failed to grab their chances or as usual have been unavailable, then we really need to move on.
Vieira and ESR can still contribute. Nelson isn’t offering anything IMO so can be disposed of, especially if clubs like Wolves are interested in him this January.
The optimum situation woukd be replacing Eddie with a higher quality striker. I believe that Trossard and Havertz are higher quality players if not goalscorers. The Havertz sample size is smaller but he’s had two quality performances against City. Trossard has shown that he can be a top player for us as a CF.
I’d rather see more of Trossard and ESR and less of Eddie. Again, I don’t hate the kid.
I was actually thinking about this during the Fulham game. He’s the only senior player, Cedric and Elneny aside, that hasn’t started a PL game for us this season.
It’s insane to think about because we had plenty of injuries, especially across front 3. Martinelli, Jesus, Saka and Trossard all missed league games due to injury this season.
Even ESR and Vieira despite their poor availability made a start. Nelson surprisingly has stayed fit this season and he hasn’t.
If the club is finding the striker market too complicated at the minute, then perhaps looking out for wingers to replace Nelson is the play instead.
So this perfectly sums up my reasoning behind Nelson. I think he is expendable, in the same way that Cedric and Elneny are. He wouldn’t be a loss, because he is not adding goals, assists or offers a real option in the starting 11.
I don’t think we can sign a striker this January, but I do think a LCB and a right-sided winger are possible.
Do you have any winger in mind?
Bakayoko looked tidy as fuck against us, doubt PSV would let him go though.
Both Ornstein and Romano recently said that Neto is still a target.
I do wonder, is it a move that we can bring in forward if we balance the books for FFP.
They have managed well without him after his injury.
