Eddie Nketiah

Has anyone ever signed a lucrative contract with us and not immediately checked out on holiday mentally?

ESR, Saka and Martinelli who are allegedly on about the same wages weren’t affected.

Sakas contract was widely reported as 30k last time round. He will definitely be moving up to that level or higher now though.

I remember seeing 50k pw being reported at the time and recently I’ve seen figures of 80k pw.

Is is possible his contract was laid down in a way where he now earns more than what he did back then?
Considering his standing since last season, I do have a hard time believing Saka is on rookie wages still and his agent or Arsenal haven’t addressed that yet.

Stupid move again from this club. Not gonna get 4th with Eddie fucking Nketiah as your backup striker against Conte, Tuchel, Pep and Klopp for a full season.

Better hope Chelsea get liquidated and ETH is a Mustafi level bust.

It’s possible yea, based on hitting some targets etc but you’d imagine those things might also have included clauses for extension too.

The player and club have said it’s an issue to address this summer. It’s not being ignored.

Well, hopefully that puts some pressure on Saka to sign a new deal. If he is indeed on low wages still, he’ll have to accept being on them for another 2 years if he wants to go on a free.

Calma dude, we used to have Alex Lacazette as backup. I think we’ll be fine.

Yeah, would rather give him a new deal and he can’t even remember how to score.

Eddie’s only value is that he’s English.

And that he somehow outscored both Auba and Laca with far less game time and kept us in the race for Top 4.

And how did that go?

You think if Eddie started all season we’d be 4th?

Probably a lot better if we started the season with him and didn’t bother with the other two.

People are so easily swayed by a few goals ffs, even those who hated Laca got a bit giddy when he did score a few and suddenly you get more sentiment for him starting.

Eddie scored a few goals, 3 of which were defender mistakes and suddenly loads of people want him to stay. I don’t get it, both he and Laca were out of contract and everyone was seemingly in agreement that both should go, we sign 2 new forwards and that’s that.

Now a few goals to wrap up the season and suddenly Nketiah is more than good enough to be backup for a top 4 club and we should pay him close to 100k pw? Madness.

Yes.

Just seen this post, completely agree and good comparison. He is very much a poacher like Hernandez was, a luxury backup option who you know has an eye for goal and is good in the box.

Problem is we don’t have a Rooney, RVP or Berba…nevermind all 3

It’s comforting to know that people from opposite ends of the political spectrum can still unite around something.

The problem is that if we don’t keep Nketiah, we’ll have to buy two ready made strikers for next season.

We know that he is at least competent and is already part of the team.
Buying him is also a lot cheaper than buying a PL ready goal scorer as backup to whoever our main signing is.
This means we’ll have more money to get a top quality striker.

It’s not ideal but there is no way the board are having a net spend of anywhere near 150m so this is their best option.
