Eddie Nketiah

Ok but he isn’t signing on without them putting those figures under his nose let’s be real here

It’s the reduced game time over Laca and now about turn that’s so insincere on all this for me.
I don’t want too think that my manager can be this fickle.
Also this scenario of playing cup games and rotation is nice in theory but it’s when injuries or suspension comes along thats the worry on trust for me.

I guess if you are not keeping Eddie it ends up as something like Gabriel Jesus and Jonathan David. For all the talk of money here, the Jonathan David transfer would still mean 30m or something that would be less money in theory to spend on CM and full-back, as discussed above. The issue about cutting loose from Eddie if he flops next season is fair.

Isn’t that compromised now though by his wages.
Nobody ignoring united below 5th is paying them.

I agree with this - my comment was more directed at people who think the £100k p/w is too much. The money isn’t an issue when you consider what a replacement would cost. We’re not paying a transfer fee so it’s the inexpensive solution to our problems.

I think the big upside is that we don’t lose a £15-£20m asset for nothing. He’s got a decent reputation now and £100k/w is affordable for a lot of mid-table clubs. We could sell him next summer if things don’t work out.

To be clear, Jonathan David for example would still be 30m more outlay because of a transfer fee, and likely at least same wages, most probably more. I agree on the issue about selling Eddie down the line if he flops.

Is Eddie good enough to be a 2nd striker option on a title winning team ?

I guess in the next 5 years we’ll find out, as we’ve deemed him a significant piece of the project with a 5 year deal.

Are those clubs paying a decent fee on top of those wages?

I don’t think there are 5 players on that wage at West Ham let alone lesser clubs. And if he leaves here it’s because he’s flopped so even less incentive to take on such wages

no way we can pay premium for 2 top strikers… as we have multiple holes on the team to get reinforced.
signing Eddie to an extension is the cheapest and most realistic way to cover this department.

I don’t think his performance can really justify 100k per week, but still, that is the cheapest (for good) way.

I don’t know where Martinelli will end up, but he had better cement consistent quality out wide or as a CF option next season because I think he would have been here long enough to not just call him a project still. If Eddie doesn’t step up then he might go down to third choice, and we can accommodate that, it is really up to him to perform, with Balogun in development also.

Personally I don’t think he is good enough to be 2nd option on a title-winning team.

But I could probably see him being similar to a Chicharito where United had Rooney, Berbatov etc ahead of him.

If we don’t sign enough players to essentially make him third choice (might be two strikers, might be a striker and a goal scoring winger) then this is a failure by the club.

We aren’t winning the league whilst City are around

Just Pep i think

It’s not so much the money as it is him taking up a spot and the opportunity cost to not sign someone else.

5m/yr is nothing but if he underperforms and we need to move him, we’ll struggle.

Now that we Nketiah on board as a backup I hope we go in for that established striker!
