I wonder how Eze is taking being second choice now that Ode is fit and starting to fire. I hope he’s using the time to work on his game and add facets that will make him more useful to us as a starter.
Nice player to watch but not Arsenal level.

It’s a concern how anonymous he’s been in so many games. Still the first few months so we have to be patient I guess. Having said that, Nwaneri had an effective game against Portsmouth and he hadn’t played forever before that.
Eze/Mikel have to figure out how to get more out of him. Hope he starts to play a more active role in the second half of the season.

Surely he’d be a good bridge between Viktor, Rice and Zubimendi, playing slightly behind Gyokeres? At least Viktor would have no complaints in knowing where his passes would be coming from.
He’s been most effective playing like a second striker and Gyok has had some of his best games with that kind of support player.
The problem is that we just don’t set up that way in general (with two forwards) and while Arteta might be OK doing it in certain matches, I don’t see him evolving the system in that direction.
Nwaneri is a more natural fit for the kind of midfielder Arteta wants than Eze. I think Eze’s future with us really depends on his ability to develop his out of possession game and then take the “creative” LW role away from Trossard, who is 31 and only contracted to the end of next season.
Eze should be given playing time alongside Odegaard but that’s too attacking for our manager’s liking. He’d be worried with the out of possession aspect.
And the left wing role does not suit Eze in its current guise. Touchline hugging is not a strength of Eze

That is our antidote to terroristball from the likes of Liverpool the other day. But it is a shame we don’t do it.
Midfield play beyond the final third doesn’t seem to be a strength either so that’s kind of a problem.
Dude scored a hattrick in the NLD, then got his game time cut off immediately. Probably too many open play goals for Arteta’s liking

I can see this story having some legs
Was at the Villa game and watched him spend the entire 1st half strolling around waiting for something to happen. He was at fault for the goal ball watching at the back post.
I can well believe Arteta has taken him out after that to let him understand what is required from his players, especially in the middle of the pitch. Constant energy with pressing and creativity. I think he’ll come back in for some games coming up, Inter, Kairat and Wigan and hes got to show more as he didnt in Portsmouth.

He needs a couple of big performances when he gets some starts over the next few weeks. Hopefully a kick up the backside.
For someone who got their dream move to Arsenal, they sure aint making the most of it in their debut season.
Eze is clearly a quality player, but the level of attention without the ball is different here. You can’t afford to switch off or space-invade. Think back to when Martinelli scored against Leeds and was still reprimanded the next day for not tracking the full back.
Arteta is prepared to accept zero goals or assists if the work without the ball is there. Gyokeres and Havertz have both gone through barren spells, but they’ve been given more rope because they haven’t shirked the out of possession demands. Eze will get it eventually.

Let’s be real, Eze just hasn’t been pulling any trees going forward. Portsmouth was a big chance for him and Nwaneri was the better player on the day.
Whatever the case, I’m sure his time will come. He does have a habit of going up a gear in the second half of seasons, especially towards the end.
He’d be extra motivated as well with the World Cup in the summer.
