Drag Performers (and kids/schools)

Before I get accussed of backtracking, ignore the use of the word ‘gay’. I am kidding.

Too late. At least 1 user will get banned tho. Thats certain.

No. People are protesting these drag shows just like students on campus have protested certain speakers. Both the drag shows and controversial speakers face opposition, just from different people. Both also attract support, but again from different people. As this thread clearly demonstrates, we’re very far from fully accepting any form of drag performed by gay people being acceptable around kids as a society.

Mrs Doubtfire had a piss standing up. Pushed it into PG territory.

Literally zero harm being done in teaching tolerance to children. The irony might in fact be kids are the last people we actually need to teach to be tolerant.

Yea I don’t think they need it either. But that doesn’t mean that if it happens it automatically equals harm.

Exactly.
There are hundreds or professions that kids could have someone talk to them about.
What responsible adult choses a drag queen over someone with a normal job to talk to children about?
It’s absolute nonsense.

Drag is something sexual, the fact you try to make akin to panto is you downplaying what it is; a lot of gay men do panto, and nobody has a problem. No one has a problem with drag, but once children get involved it’s a different topic.

You are being disingenuous about the topic.

Tolerance definitely needs to be taught but where is the line? If people are happy with drag Queens talking to five year olds, what is the level up? Tolerance has to have a limit.

I repeat, drag Queens aren’t the enemy but in my opinion shouldn’t be speaking on mass to Primary School children in work clothes!

Drag can be sexual. It can also be political. It can be comedic. It can be many things.

I mean…they’re not.

Except for children.

Again you ignore it’s sexualised routes.

Typo. I meant shouldn’t be speaking to a mass of Primary aged children.

I didn’t mean it is a common occurrence.

Have you been to a drag show in person, or ever watched any drag related television shows? Because I have, and Ive seen it done without being sexual. Yes, it might be a bloke in a dress who is gay but the content of the act or bit may have nothing to do with sex or his sexuality at all.

You make assertions that make it very much seem like you know nothing about drag at all.

Yes, it absolutely can be highly sexualised, it often is, that’s part of the fun of it sometimes lol. But it isn’t inherently sexual at all times, sometimes it can just be a bloke who happens to be gay in make up and a wig being funny.

Really? How man drag queens do you know?

Had no idea you Brits were such into Drag Queens. Its literally not a topic we ever discuss in Denmark thank god.

Can you really not see why it might be inappropriate for Children?

You know what kids are interested in when someone is reading them a story?

It’s the fucking story people. They couldn’t give a shit if it’s a panda or a computer doing the reading.

Yea I have, my partners two best friends are drag acts, and I’ve been to their shows, both of them don’t support drag acts for kids or story time. Thus your assertion is wrong.

@JakeyBoy - regarding our last exchange, I don’t disagree with anything you said, but you did miss my point - people who call themselves flowjob and make a living from imitating fellatio etc. who then freely choose to want to enter a school setting to be around young children is a red flag. Groomer alert!
