My old local team when I lived in Plumstead. I’d have gone to a game if they had Bergkamp Jnr playing for them back then lol

Big man will be at the Armoury on Saturday.

There is an alternate universe where Dennis Bergkamp and Ronaldo Phenomeno were in the same Inter team.

Removing the heartbreaking loss that would have been to Arsenal…fuck me that would have been something

Yeah. That’s an insane combo.

Bergkamp’s vision on Ronaldo’s movement and pace who was already shredding offside traps at the time like nothing… He would be scoring 60 goals a season with Bergkamp’s support.

There was probably never a better second striker, support striker, whatever, than Bergkamp. His combinations with Kluivert, Wright, Anelka, Henry etc were all a joy to watch.

He sees that pass even before the striker has that movement in mind. And the pass technique was always beyond perfect, from any angle.

I remember watching a highlight video of him at I think it was Euro 2000. Some of the passes were ridiculous lol

This is an interesting video on Bergkamp’s whole career.

I what what partially made his passes and vision so good was the fact that he was a prolific scorer in a part of his earlier career at Ajax. That’s why he understood the movement of the stiker in front of him so perfectly.
Again, only partially, he had out of this world football intelligence and understanding of the game primarily.

I remember being quite surprised learning about his earlier careee bacically when he retired. Didn’t know he was such a goalscorer at Ajax, watching him playing as an almost midfielder, as a pure creator, in his later Arsenal years.

After failing at Inter (although he wasn’t that bad actualy, as the video I posted earlier above suggests, the ability was quite obvious) where they expected him to be as prolific as with Ajax, he basically totally reinvented himself as a footballer, becoming a provider for that main goalscorer, with Wright, Anelka etc.

It was Bergkamp’s first touch that amazed me. He seemed to be able to make space and time for himself simply by knowing how to receive the ball.

I put him slightly ahead of Henry as our best-ever player. Henry was the better striker and was brilliant in wide positions too but Bergkamp had the more difficult job in the middle of the park where there is usually less time and space.

Would Jared Gilet on VAR disallow this for a push by Bergkamp?

You know he would. And the commentators would go ā€œI have seen those given as foulsā€, ā€œHe clearly pushes him away, there is no reason for his hand to be that far away from his bodyā€.

Sign Bergkamp as a coach. Now.

The best player Arsenal ever had.

He wins it over Henry because Dennis didn’t fuck off to Barcelona forcing us to sell a world class player for peanuts.

For me, him retiring here will eclipse everything anyone else in the Arsenal teams of that era did.
Just such a classy player that could do it all with his eyes closed.

On another note, it’s so nice to see the boss aswell, he looks really well
