Declan Rice (41)

Look, I like your “On this Day” posts, but one commemorating Ornstein tweeting about an at the time unaccepted transfer offer is beyond the limits of what can be considered socially acceptable.

Do not do this again or you will be shunned by the community.

Would be the time to make a bid for Seskeres, no?

Why did the tweet need to capitalise ‘THAT’ specifically?

To remind us of…

THAT

Your early, it ain’t even 17th August yet.

That’s why getting Eze would be epic for us. He can play as a LCM 8 too.

Big season coming up for him. Obviously not seen as the long term solution at 6 so he’ll be operating in that left 8 position will need to see more consistency from him this campaign. I want a better start given he’s had the summer off to rest now and hope he can show the dangerous goalscoring form I think we all know he’s capable of.

Too many average games from him in the first half of the season. I definitely think there’s more to come from him his first season showed us much more than his second season did.

Hoping the arrival of Zubimendi helps him too as by all accounts he seems to be the ideal midfield partner to free up Rice a little more. I’m hoping that Rice performances were just negatively impacted by Partey legs being a little gone and needing to cover more ground.

I think we may have a midfield like like this:

Eze (if we get him) - Rice - Zubi - Ode

Rice and Zubi patrolling the middle, Ode continues to work his magic with Saka. Eze leans on the left.

MLS and Norgaard as back up.

everyone but the main man sees it. A lot of things would be solved with a simple positional switch. Odegaard on the left and Rice on the right

all because of this fucking wrong footed concept.

We have all the left footers on the right, and right footers on the left.

Conveniently ignored by the haters

I don’t think he has any haters I think everyone likes Rice. There’s no doubting his commitment to giving his all it’s just that we paid £105m for him to play as our DM and he didn’t fit the profile of what Arteta wants and now he’s going to be our left midfielder and he still doesn’t really fit the profile either.

It’s just frustrating that we’ve spent so much on the midfield but can’t seem to get it right. £35m Vieira, £65m Havertz, £105m Rice, £30m Merino and not one of those players managed to lock down the position they were actually signed to play in.

£230m is a lot of money to have thrown at the midfield with no real signs of it being better than Partey, Odegaard and Xhaka.

I feel Rice is our best midfielder tbh. Comfortably better than Xhaka

Agree. Rice isn’t a 100m plus number 8. A lot of players can do that job for much less. I’m glad that we have him but Zubimendi, Rice, Odegaard doesn’t have me believing that we can dominate the best midfields in Europe or out create them.

Odegaard is the weak link for me.

Indeed. Nobody is saying Rice is a bad player. He just doesn’t fit the short-passing style of play. I’ve said it before but Rice would excel under Klopp.

This house is built on Odegaard.

No doubt. Our whole structure has been developed to make Odegaard the fulcrum. When it’s good it is good, but when Odegaard isn’t on form, it malfunctions and our creativity comes from Rice set pieces and control from whether P**try is fit and actually playing in midfield.

I think Rice is one of the world’s best midfielders, I felt the same about Par***. I don’t about Odegaard.
