Declan Rice (41)

Bro, it’s West Ham. They’re always like this. Anyone here in the UK can testify to that. They think they are bigger than they actually are in which they get very precious about their reality. All the time.

They are permanently never happy.

This isn’t a West Ham thing tbh. Every ex player gets pantomime boos when they go back to their old stadium. Especially if they were the captain

Great performance and he really showed for the ball too. Saw him constantly putting himself about.

Shame for timber but rice’s perfect corners over and over again just put him ahead for motm.

Both great and more like it from rice. Told you he doesn’t need to play the 6 to be at his best, he just needs to stay involved going forward with his driving runs.

One of his best games for me. What you would call a captain’s performance even though he’s not :joy:

I can’t make out his dribbling.
He bamboozles everyone when he runs with the ball.

Loves playing Vs Man United.

Love it

This is going under reported. Despite being booed by West Ham fans repeatedly, Declan contributed a significant about towards the Gofundme page for the family of Oscar Fairs, a youth goalkeeper who tragically died of cancer aged 15. Thoughts to the Fairs family at this time.

Subbed off injured apparently.

This fucking season

Besides corners, i’m not sure what he’s offering us in midfield lately.

Miles away from Partey’s level.

Very keen to hear thoughts of others but how successful has this signing been for Arsenal? He cost us £100m, has he delivered? Is he a game changer or passenger in the side?

Good at taking corners and driving forward at times. He’s scored some important goals for us so far since he’s been here.

He’s not worth the £105m we paid though, never was - but being British, that’s the going rate with his age and talent.

I just don’t know whether there’s an extra level or two that he can grow into with his game, or is what we’re getting just who he is?

He’s not dynamic enough in that #8 role and isn’t better than Partey as a #6. But Partey & our full-backs will inevitably be injured again, so that will be his natural home here.

If we had won a title in one of the last 2 seasons, he would have been absolutely worth it.

Just going by the money we paid for him, one does expect a bit more dynamism from him, someone who would be able to do everything (defend, ball carrying, passing, scoring) at a reasonably good level. On the other hand, his best years are still ahead of him. Maybe Mikel is yet to unlock his full potential.

We are a better team with Declan Rice so yep, worth it.

I’m not convinced we are really better than we were with xhaka-partey-Odegaard but still was a great signing.

Xhaka had a couple years left, Rice has a decade and is quality. A collective struggle at the moment doesn’t negate how good he was last year and I think people came to expect such a base level of performance from him now, that it’s hard to impress on a weekly basis.

Struggled with end product compared to last season though:

Chelsea paid more for Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez so it’s not a matter of British it was just the rate West Ham wanted for their most important player.
