Declan Rice (41)

I’m with you on it being a normal playing load at a top club. What I don’t know enough about is how other managers mitigate the physical impact on players and whether what Arteta does is different.

Because it’s way too much of a pattern that our players look run into the ground by this point in the season compared to players at other top sides. It has happened every year of Arteta’s reign near enough.

I wonder if the extremely specific way Arteta wants the team to play is physically sustainable for a squad across a whole season, and whether there’s a need for more variety.

I think it’s less the number of games, and more so the amount of running he makes them do.

Our style of play relies on everyone running tons of km up and down the flanks for 90-mins. Every game.

Eventually you’re gonna break down.

And this doesn’t even take into consideration the nature of training drills we must be doing.

This I completely agree with.. but even then watch Klopp’s Liverpool they had a high energy style all season and the top players were all playing 50-60 games a season.

Listen to the stories of Juventus they had the players running so much that if they didn’t run enough during the game they would have to make it o in training the next day.

I just don’t think it’s specific to Arteta tbh with you. It’s a failing of a lot of top clubs / coaches.

I was going to say Pep gets it right but he’s also the only manager who gets torn a squad so big you could put two top teams out

I would love to know how this nonsense rumour begun as people just use it to beat against Arteta if they dont like him

And the other thing is minutes.

They may start similar games but I feel other teams manage the minutes better than we do.

Rice played 94mins vs sporting just now despite being a doubt the day before…

A result or this team being the best out-of-possession-based team in the world - it’s a lot of running and why we are so dogged defensively.

Mikel can/should do better by rotating better but largely, big game players are going to/want to play all of the time.

he had a bug not an injury

Arsenal average 114.3 km per match as a team, City average 115.5 km. Leeds also cover similar distance. Liverpool 114km

I think 50-55 is acceptable and managable, but when you’re hitting mid 60s range it’s 100% gonna take it’s toll IMO. That’s a lot of fucking football for even the fittest players, especially central midfielders who more than not cover the most ground per game.

Yeah the best players often play at a snail pace for most of the matches. 60+ matches where you are constantly moving around is not the same

Still haunted from Wilshere playing 50+ games then 0 the following season

Messi and Ronaldo played a lot of games but weren’t mandated to track back as much as our players are.

The infallible Declan. Big fan but what the fuck was that at the end of the game? On the floor screaming at Captain Coward, ‘It’s not Done’

Yes it is Declan and you were shite. You’ve got credit in the bank but we lost that midfield battle. I expect him to perform against Atletico though.

Err I’d prefer the players to not throw in the towel personally.

Perform on the pitch not in the theatre for the cameras after the whistle has gone.

What is wrong with Rices performances on the pitch?

Nothing. Arguably has been our best player. Shout it’s not done after scoring the equaliser Not after being bossed by Bernardo Silva.

STFU then.

The internet is such a funny place. Everything about you screams victim. I bet you’ve never told anybody to STFU face to face. It’s hilarious.

As somebody with dyslexia, I think you should get tested. How you read the original post about Rive as a criticism of his over performances is baffling.

Such a gimp.

Yea I wasn’t responding to the original post.

I’ve never had to tell someone to STFU to their face because most people are capable of nuanced conversations and don’t just shout out every thought that comes into their head like you do on here.

I’m sure you’re a fine educator by the way.
