Watched it again today. He chooses direction very early, making it more easy for the shooter. Hard to criticise a keeper when it’s penalties, but Raya dives earlier than most.

He’s been a shootout hero for us using this method. The finger of blame for yesterdays defeat is nowhere near Rays to be honest.

yeah, said the same to my friend during the game, he goes for a corner when the taker hasn’t even started their backswing yet.
unusual, maybe he was just a bit off mentally, on the day. no problem for me tho, I expect nothing from a gk on pens, not his fault we lost in the slightest, we should’ve won the game in regular time.
It’s not a stick to beat Raya with really but I don’t subscribe to this ‘expect nothing from a GK on pens’ view.
Emi Martinez (clown that he is) is a great keeper on pens, it’s not pot luck that he saves quite a lot.

I remember him being dubbed as some kind of penalty specialist after the Porto game last year and how he’s such a penalty don compared to Ramsdale
I think most penalty misses are because of the penalty taker but Raya was jumping so early I honestly couldn’t believe how badly he was telegraphing his movement.

felt like he thought if he went right every time, 1 out of the 5 would go right, but because he telegraphed it so badly, he made it too easy for them
Honestly feels like he concedes every decent opportunity atm. Not saying he should have saved either goal yesterday but just feels like any good shot against him right now goes in

All goals are goalkeeper errors.
Noticed this for a while. He’s great at claiming crosses and his distribution is pretty good.
But when there’s a breakthrough on goal, seems like there’s a good chance we’ll concede.
I do wonder whether that’s less on him and more on our forwards requiring 30 chances to score one, or our defence being so exposed so easily.
On the whole it does seem like we’re having to work hard for our goals but then conceding so easy
I obviously agree we have some scoring issues but it’s quite interesting reading other fan forums and they also think the same about their teams a lot of the time. We tend to hyper-focus on our own teams and can ignore shortcomings with other teams.
We are like 3rd highest scorers and 2nd best defense I believe with the joint best teams having played a game less.
Feels like the way we play and defend forces teams into shots from distance and long pumped crosses (both things it feels like we never do) and a weird amount of that is paying off for them teams currently.
I dont tend to overanalyse or remembering goals against us for too long but I’m also struggling to remember many well worked team goals against us in recent times. It’s all breakaways and long shots etc. Even on set pieces, we’re pretty solid.
Just annoying more than anything else.

Inaki Cana and Arteta wanted Joan Garcia last summer. It would not be a surprise if they payed the release clause in the next window.
