David Luiz

How can he be so good AND so shit???

Concentration. With him I so often feel there are matches where he’s not so bothered.

Let’s hope Arteta’s got that out of his system :arteta:

Him and Mustafi exchange clown shoes every so often…
Have it on good authority Arteta threw them away.

Mental health brother.

He has all the talent in the world, but when things go wrong for him, they go really wrong.

It is what it is.

He certainly made amends for the league game against City a month or so ago.

Fantastic today. Great job leading the backline

MOTM for me, fantastic performance, he cut everything out.

I can’t understand how he can be so Jekyll and Hyde

I know it’s popular to dislike him and think he’s a clown but in reality, the reason I was so big on this move was because:

  • He’s a leader with an absolute wealth of trophy winning and big club experience
  • He’s as good as most defenders in the league (even though he is prone to lapses in concentration). But when he’s on, he’s on and he’s absolutely unbeatable when he’s on.
  • Sokratis is dogshit and when we lost Koscielny we needed a genuinely good and experienced CB to help guide the younger defenders and now you can feel safe knowing Saliba has some great experience to help him when he arrives.

The pros of Luiz outweight the negatives.

I think that we’ll see more of that under Arteta for sure. Great turnaround game from the league drubbing.

He will probably have another awful game, but yeah agreed here.

I echo all your points, plus he seems like a really good guy to have around the dressing room too.

Yep. Luiz just needed a stable system to help hide his own flaws. In a gung ho, disorganised system he’s going to do dumb things like step out of position when he doesn’t need to and try to bring the ball out from the back when it’s more sensible to play it to someone else.

But in an air tight system where he’s instructed to do simple things, he’s a rock and a leader and he’s going to be invaluable for us next season as we bleed Saliba in and try to bring Mari up to PL speed.

Yep. Can certainly see much better organization w/Arteta in charge. He looked confident out there and seemed to have a bazillion headed clearances in the 2nd half.

Top performance for him.

Amazing how much better the squad and Luiz look when the team doesn’t ship silly goals.

He was absolutely fantastic, marshalled the defence brilliantly.

Loved the interview also.

What the hell did Arteta say to them on the training pitch last week? Two really good defensive showings. I think the way he conducted himself tonight was what we thought we were getting when he signed. He’s obviously always liable to blow up but we really just need him to stay focused for 90 more minutes and win the goddamn FA Cup.

Saka: "But one player, in particular, I would have to say is probably David Luiz.

"He’s a man with a big heart and he just has so much experience in the game as well.

"He goes out of his way all the time to advise and help all the young players.

"I’m sure if you asked them as well they will tell you how much he is there to support us.

ā€œHe is a very important member of our squad.ā€
