Cristiano Ronaldo

Sad end to an incredible career really. Maybe he has it in his head he can come back aged 40 and pick up a top club but no chance that happens.

Ultimately he’s going to go down as one of the very greatest players to ever play the game. I think even he has recognised that staying in Europe is tarnishing his image a bit (not his legacy, that’s untouchable). And it’s in his best interests to collect a lot of money and just get the hell out of here for a bit.

He’s made everything worse by taking this obscene amount of money though, he doesn’t need it at all. The Portuguese league would have loved him back home.
It’s why I would like to see Messi play in Argentina, he doesn’t need the money but the adoration would be unparalleled in his own country.

How many CL goals is Messi behind Ronaldo ?

One of the best players of this generation, no doubt, but the comparisons with Messi will probably have to rest now, even for his own good. Messi, Pele and Maradona are in one bracket. Ronaldo, Zidane, Romario etc in another. And going to Al Nassr, think he realizes it too. Earn some money while you can. Nothing bad about it if that’s your thing.

Think Ronaldo leading Messi by some 15 goals or so.

Could be relatively interesting then to see who ends up being all time CL leading scorer.

I preferred it when Raul was top scorer with an almost impenetrable record

Why?

I dunno man, tbh I appreciate these greats like Messi and Ronaldo in football and Federer, Nadal and Djokovic in tennis that have driven the standards so high. Been a privilege to watch.

It’s just a reminiscent feeling.

Football, on the whole, was better in the early 2000s, too.

I probably did love the competitiveness back then across the top 5 leagues, Valencia and Deportivo winning in Spain, Lazio and Roma in Italy, Germany had some different winners.

Yeah.

Montpellier and Leicester deserve honorable mentions for what they did in the 2010s but generally, back at the turn of the century, it was far more competitive.

Props to him. Secured the bag. At least we won’t have to see him anymore.

Arabs love CR7 as well so good move

Is he that much more popular in the Middle East than North America or Asia?

He is quite popular in the Middle East and North Africa

More so than Messi? Obviously it’s anecdotal evidence but in Israel I saw way more Messi jerseys.

Yes I do believe so

At the least the Moroccans over here that I know all prefer Ronaldo over Messi

Lost a bit of respect for him taking this deal after making such a fuss to get out of united tbh.

Was it all worth it if not to play in the CL one more time?

Must’ve exhausted his options and decided this was the best thing on the table, hardly competitive and gonna keep him in top shape for the euros either though.
