Cost of Living

I was lucky to get a re-mortgage in the 4% region the other week, mate. Gone to about 6.19 now, on average, I hear.

It is absolutely ridiculous for a family to keep up now

That’s fucking savage mate. I’ve sat down and done the calculations on mine, it’s not due for another 2.5yrs and hopefully it’ll settle down by then but of that stays the same mine gets starts to get slight on the side of daft. I’m a so gle income person too.

How long did you lock it down for?

Only 2 years, but I’m regretting not going for 3. As recently as late May they were talking about it dropping from 4% to the lower rates we’re used to. Hence why I went for the shorter term.

I suppose if I have the capacity to make a serious overpayment, that’s what I’ll have to try and do. Can’t see anything (end of war in Ukraine, new government post election) reducing the interest rates as they stand. Will we get from the 6 odd per cent to the 2% we’re used to in 2 years? Too big an ask.

My water is so bad that I daren’t drink it unless I’ve filtered it. And it’s already destroyed my previous washing machine.

I resent giving those fuckers any of my money.

Yeah I wouldn’t drink tap water anywhere apart from Scotland.

Seems a little bit odd lol

Wouldn’t trust it tbh

Watching a financial expert on TV yesterday warning that interest rates lower than 5% are a thing of the past which is depressing. Needless to say this is brilliant news for banks and building societies who will put up mortgage rates but will make sure interest on savings moves very little.

The whole housing market is fucked, too many people need homes, too many homes are owned by landlords which means too many people are stuck in the rental market unable to save for a mortgage or the deposits now needed.

Most of the above was caused by political choices that’s what makes me angry. Millionaire MPs stopping house-building project in their constituencies and millionaire economists making decisions with the interest rates that don’t affect them. Those running this country’s finances in Parliament and in the Bank of England are a fucking disgrace.

Yet you want more migrants and open boarders to squeeze more people out of the housing market.

No. I’ve never advocated for “open boarders” (sic).

Strangely people like Farage, Johnson, Rees-Mogg, Sunak et al are fine with open borders when it comes to moving their earnings over them and into tax havens; thus depriving our schools, hospitals, armed forces and border forces the investment they so desperately need.
