Club World Cup

Not a domestic cup.

Not only are they fielding full squads, some teams have specifically done summer deals early so their new signings take part in this.

Madrid for example insisted on Alonso coaching the team for the Club World Cup and have paid Liverpool a fee to get Trent early.

Wow it’s that deep.

Footballers unions are some of the most pathetic i’ve ever seen. Total pushovers

They are shite, however, I’m not sure what you expect them to do.

The players themselves are not raising complaints and for the most part are happy to play and receive the appearance bonuses etc.

A union without a complaint can’t just raise one itself.

The problem here is clearly FIFA not the unions

That’s valid.

My thing issue is player overload a safety issue or not?

If the player aren’t kicking off I guess not

Yea i guess players are just prepared to accept the overload and potential injury that comes with it in exchange for the compensation they receive.

Prize money for the winner is 140m+ I read? By comparison we got around 100m for reaching the semi finals of the CL. So 140m in about a month is a lot.

Oof

What did they expect for a game between Al-Ahly and Miami that’s taking place in a country that doesn’t like football all that much.

America loves “events” though. I think it speaks volumes that they can’t even raise interest in this there.

I think I read that clubs could earn nearly £100m from competing in this so it’s absolutely no surprise that teams are desperate to perform well in it.

I think it’ll be a one and done thing though because there is virtually no fan interest in this whatsoever. The television companies don’t want to pick it up, fans don’t want tickets for it… they lucked out with the mega money they got on it this time round but I don’t think they’ll be so lucky next time out.

I think there will be another one because this is essentially the answer to the Super League FIFA and UEFA have been trying to prevent.

Unfortunately for the smaller teams involved, I think they’ll be the ones to take the hit for it and they’ll find a way to squeeze in more European giants next time around.

The elusive star power the tournament was lacking up to now

The whole thing was cooked up by Infantino and then backed by Saudi Arabia so I guess it depends how much the former wants to keep trying due to his huge ego and how much the latter want to keep throwing money at it as a way to help/bribe Infantino.

I wasn’t really paying that much attention but apparently there was a pretty clear sequence this year in which:

-No broadcasters expressed interest in paying to televise the competition.
-Saudi Arabia announced a $1B investment in DAZN
-DAZN bought the global streaming rights to the CWC for $1B
-Infantino announced that there would be a $1B total prize pool for the participating clubs

Al-Ittihad casually loaning one of their best players to a rival so they can look better at the Club World Cup.

Prices dropped even further

I’m assuming those are the lowest-priced tickets.

I’d be interested to know how ticket sales are looking for the other games.

I just did about 3 minutes of pissing around on Ticketmaster and availability is wide!
