Used as anti Rice propaganda
Caicedo is better than Rice in my opinion. Both good players but I honestly think Caicedo is the best midfielder in the league. Zubimendi looks quality and if he keeps it up heāll certainly be in that discussion too.
Rice is a far better midfielder than Caicedo and I love Caicedo!

I really like Rice but he is not a far better midfielder.
For me they are very close to each other and its personal preference to who you prefer.

I just donāt see how this is even remotely true. Heās not even the best midfielder in our team anymore as Zubimendi looks much better at the 6 than he ever did
On the topic of Rice/Caicedo though - Caicedo makes more passes at a much higher pass completion rate. He attempts way more progressive passes and long passes.
Caicedo makes way more tackles per 90 mins in the defensive and midfield third as well as higher up the pitch. He makes more interceptions.
He touches the ball more, carries the ball further and in a more progressive manner.
There is not one single statistic that supports the does that Rice is better then Caicedo. Not the eye test nor the statistics.
G/As in all comps is the only area where Rice has Caicedo beat quite consistently, looking at the last 3 seasons. Though Caicedoās off to a good start with 3 goals this season.
Yeah for sure. But everything else Caicedo is comfortably better than him right now. Saw someone call him Makelele in another thread and he is like a regen of him.

Caicedo is more fundamental to Chelsea than Rice is to Arsenal. Heās surrounded by players not at the level Rice is here. I think thatās part of it and i donāt think Caicedo would replicate those stats here either.
Iām happy with rice and I would have been happy with Caicedo too. Both very high level players.

Where are these stats from and over what time period?
Iām looking at this season so far (admittedly small sample size), and getting this:
Rice has attempted fewer take ons, but has a much higher success rate when he does, and is tackled less often. Then on ācarriesā I see Rice carrying the ball more and carrying it further, both in total distance and if youāre looking at progressive carries specifically.
Rice also creates chances at a higher rate and assists more. Those figures will in large part be to his excellent set pieces and crossing, sure, but it still counts towards his effectiveness as a midfielder, and would be a statistical measure thatās in Riceās favour.
I donāt even necessarily disagree with you rating Caicedo over Rice, I think I might do too if I remove bias and if I watched Chelsea more closely than I do, but I think youāre perhaps making out like itās more clearcut than it is.
I donāt really disagree tbh with you. I just think Caicedo is the better player and I canāt fathom how anyone could say Rice is āfar betterā than him.
Both are key to their respective teams I just think there is more to Caicedo than Rice.

The thing is if you take all these corners and free kicks of course those statistics will favour you. I know youāve acknowledged that part. But in terms of their ability to create from open play situations, Caicedo is definitely the better and more complete passer and more likely to carry the ball into dangerous areas than Rice is.
I just went and checked last season too, and like your screenshot shows, it says that Rice carries the ball a greater distance, both in total and specifically in terms of progressive carries.
Thatās true for this season so far and all of last season.
