Leverkusen are on the down. Alonso is only the first person leaving. Their star players are already looking to go.
He’s got a good thing going at Como and the fact he’s part owner certainly helps. No reason to rush things. If he keeps doing a good job bigger clubs will come calling.
I think he was more disputing whether it’s a ‘good’ step up tbf.
Not been at como that long, I think he’d be better off staying there and continuing to build his experience rather than rush to what seems like a big chance at the first sign of asking.
Henry got jobs on his name rather than skills, got him nowhere. Cesc would be jumping to a team 1 year removed from going unbeaten, the pressure will be high from the off and they’re supposedly losing their best player to their rivals at the same time.
their star players were leaving every year for years leading up to last season when they won the league.
the difference that season was imo down to a perfect storm of timing, luck and xabi alonso having a great season as a manager, which seems unlikely to happen again in the near future.
but they were good before and should be somewhat good after, they weren’t dependent on a core crop of players.. so question is more, for me, about whether or not cesc proves to be good enough to keep the proverbial ball rolling or not.
