Cesc Fabregas

The incentive to leave for both was the same. Winning shit. With Henry Arsenal wanted to cooperate because they were done with him. The difference here was Arsenal were okay with Henry leaving, but not with Cesc leaving. Whilst they both were here for the same time. If Cesc would have won that title people would have been fine with Cesc leaving too. People can telling themselves it’s because how they acted but that is bs. Vieira might not be held in high regard as Henry, but he is definitely not as disliked as Cesc. Because of trophies.

You keep coming back to this league title in 07/08. Newsflash- we didn’t win it. We bottled it. Furthermore, Fabregas can’t be excused of any blame here. If we bottled it, he was a bottler, too. Again- professionalism.

I don’t think anyone would have been fine with Fabregas potentially feigning injury in his last season, sitting and laughing and joking with Pique in the stands while we were getting our asses handed to us at the Nou Camp or joyfully giggling when his stupid national team-mates put a Barcelona top on him even if he was a league title winner at Arsenal.

All that shit would have not happened if the League was won. Like with Henry happened; ‘thank you for your service and good luck elsewhere’. That is what I’m trying to say.

No, that’s conjecture. I’m telling you what did happen. You’re telling me what might have happened had we won a league title we bottled.

I’m telling you why certain players get away with stuff and others don’t. Whilst at the end of the day both did the same. They turned their back on Arsenal. Which to me means; fuck them both or both not.

Fabregas turned his back on Arsenal in an unprofessional way. It was an open wound back then which, over time, has tempered feelings somewhat. Arsenal fans were angry at the time. Indeed, when the opportunity came to re-sign him, there was not a resounding ‘yes’ from the fanbase.

I’m not going to knock a player who gives everything for Arsenal and clearly cares for the club and then leaves.

And there you go. Farbegas wasn’t given the opportunity to leave in a professional way because we didn’t win anything therefore we demanded loyalty from him. He gave everything for Arsenal. Laughing with Pique or wearing a Barcelona shirt doesn’t change that.

I find it funny that you say he didn’t gave everything to Arsenal whilst us overusing him actually lead to his body breaking down in his last 2/3 seasons here.

This is what I’m disputing. He didn’t give everything for Arsenal because of his behaviour in his final season. He was pretty much the biggest hate figure of Arsenal since Cole and Anelka by the time he left (two more examples, like Vieira, that success doesn’t mean you stay at a club)

One season. He was here for seven or eight.

Both different situations (Cole and Anelka).

One season is enough to make or break a player and his reputation

It you’re a bit short-sighted most definitely.

Not just me. The fanbase doesn’t lie.

Short-sightedness doesn’t have to be limited to the few.

Case in point; religion.

Ok, fck that. You’re not getting me started on that :joy:

How reliable are the feigning injury rumours though? We know he ruined his hamstrings with us

Why shouldn’t he socialise with lads he grew up with when injured and on international duty? I mean I know football is tribal but if he is injured what can he do? Imagine a mate you grew up with coming to chat to you and saying: ‘Yea I know we were mates growing up but fuck off because we’re playing for different clubs now’.

I think the real reason for the Fabregas hostility is because we knew full well we were half the team once he left. And at the start of 11/12 we really were. We know both he and Nasri left because we were a sinking ship. Fans are essentially shifting that blame from the powers in charge of the club to a player or 2.

Does anyone here really hate Overmars and Petit? No because we got Pires, Silva and Edu. If we got Suarez, Higuan, Mata and Hazard after RVP and Fabregas left less fucks would have been given.

Sorry, are we talking about Fabregas here still? That doesn’t sound right to me at all. I know quite a few weren’t happy with his perceived conduct, but I’m sure there were a lot of others like me who didn’t feel that way. “Biggest hate figure” doesn’t quite ring true to me

Biggest hate figure since Anelka and Cole is probably about right. He wasn’t thought of as “badly” as Anelka and Cole, and he didn’t leave as contentiously as some players after him (Nasri, RvC, Adebayor).

He still isn’t held in quite as high as esteem unanimously among Arsenal fans. His transfer away was inevitable and his unprofessional behaviour went some way to helping him secure that move.

Cesc = :heart: x100
