He had a good reputation when he first came to PL. And to be fair, that Burnley team couldn’t overachieve even with best of coaching.
Still a massive gamble from Bayern.
Football is entering a new era of managerial talents with Arteta, Alonso, Kompany etc.
Quite the way to fail upwards, I hope this isn’t Bayern needing an easy target since they couldn’t get their preferred candidates.

Why would he be well respected? I mean I understand he accomplished a lot as a player but his record as a coach is still pretty meh and that dressing room is going to be very different from the ones he’s worked with before.
Yes I think he would be. He was a great player and he doesn’t have an extensive record of terrible performances as a manager to offset that too much at this point.
He’s also very young so lots of the players will have grown up watching him or been heavily entrenched in the football world when he was playing at City.

I guess. I could see it going either way tbh. That dressing room could just as likely eat him alive.
Players are the least of Kompany’s concern. If he struggles will Bayern support their ‘8th choice’? Coaches are struggling to last there.

Yeah I guess I just wasn’t that high on him as a player to think he’d be automatically respected. Maybe it’ll be an inspired appointment and this post will look as dumb as all my other posts in about 18 months.

He looks brilliant for them. I have to say I have underestimated him a bit.
Although he was surely never an option for us anyway, he would never come here to be a sub for Saka or to compete with him, whatever.
