Bukayo Saka (7)

Our biggest threat by far tonight

You think so?

I mean apart from hitting the post I thought he was ineffective, all other shots blocked and he wasn’t cooking their defenders

Some times you have to switch things up and the final 20 tonight would love to have seen Saka moved central. Driving at the backline creating uncertainty and confusion. As mentioned above, it’s becoming a bit predictable out wide at times.

Bukayo looking more bukkake by the game.

hahaha, you’re so crass lol :joy:

Looked our most likely goal source. He isn’t fully cooking but he looks far more dangerous than Martinelli and Jesus.

Saka wants to cut inside understandably, but every defender knows that. I think in these types of situations he’s got to really dribble at his marker. Isolate and force him backwards, tempting him into making a challenge. If no challenge arrives then at least he’s in the penalty box. I feel like Grealish is good at doing that.

Jeeez, and where’s the support?!

Saka’s problem is he’s not skilful — but then again, who is these days. He has one trick in the book and once you’ve figured him out, he’s not dangerous at all.

Here’s another one where I think Saka has his defender beat if he drives inside with speed. He doesn’t but this isn’t just on Saka. Everyone else is also fairly static.

  • Jesus doesn’t make a run.
  • Odegaard could be an option inside but doesn’t show
  • White could move into the space as Benrahma decides to double aggressively. If a player gets doubled, there’s going to be a spare man, and the team hasn’t made anything from those advantages created by Saka.

Agreed, that huge space he should be running directly into or the others could run into the space too. Get into a position where the opposition fouls you if necessary… instead of just hogging the ball on the right flank.

There doesn’t seem to be much of a plan of what to do when Saka gets doubled. He’s drawing two defenders to him and that’s opening up space but there’s never a forward run to take advantage of it.

In my head, Smith Rowe feels like a possible solution as he’s someone who naturally makes those types of runs. Also, that side of the pitch could with a right-footed attacker just to shift the dynamics a little.

Look at that gap between the LB and LCB. Someone needs to be running into that. That’s one thing I used to like about Ramsey, he’d eat up that space. Same with Havertz now.

Robben is the model of how to bamboozle players who 100% knew what he was going to do. Saka taking that right and shooting also gives the opponent something to think about. Part of issue is that we seem not to profit enough from him and Martinelli taking it wide and crossing deep. We never seem to have that deep runner busting. Just shepherd him outside until double comes over… sorted.

I thought some of our penetrative passing was more creative yesterday but just lacked precision and a bit of killer instinct… and some liuck.

One of my pet peeves with Odegaard. Never runs into those spaces.

Part of me doesn’t blame him because even if be were to do that, because he’s so one footed, he would just go outward instead until he turns back and then the opening will be gone.

I maintain that I would like to see him on the left.
