1979/80 season after an epic fa cup semi final battle with Liverpool ( played 4 games), they wimped out in the final against West Ham, lost in the cup winners cup final on penalties.
To cap it all we finished 3rd that season and for some strange reason it wasn’t enough to qualify for the uefa cup.
It was my first full season as an Arsenal fan, so I was born into disappointment.

Going back to what you said, Brian Talbot playing 70 games, Arsenal played an insane amount of games that season with a much smaller squad and I think Liverpool won the league with only 14 players.
Im sure the game was more physical in those days, so sometimes it baffles me how they coped whereas today you hear how some players suffer burnout especially during an international tournament year.
