Bret Hart Was Quite Good

With the help of ChatGPT, this was the age of WCW guys by mid 2000 (I went with June):

Scott Steiner37

Hulk Hogan46

Booker T35

Scott Hall41

Kevin Nash40

Jeff Jarrett32

Diamond Dallas Page (DDP)44

Sting41

Goldberg33

Lex Luger42

Buff Bagwell30

Average age: 38.3

I’ve seen this image do the rounds too a couple weeks ago too but I feel it’s a bit disingenuous from the person that put it together and lacks context.

KO has been out for a while and his career could be over. John Cena has been absent for a while and returned for his final year. Currently he has two matches left before he goes and it’s likely he’s putting Dominik and Gunther over on his way out.
Orton has practically been part timer for a while.
He hasn’t had a World Title match in 2 years. Last time he main evented a show was his return 3 years ago.
@Leper reminded me Orton main evented Backlash earlier this year against Cena.

Breakker(28) and Reed(37) have been in the main mix since April/May. Dominik Mysterio(28) has been on the spotlight for many years.

ESPN released a list of the 30 best wrestlers under 30 recently.

10 of the Top 12 are wrestlers under the WWE umbrella.

I get the some of the concern but I feel we’re on the verge of a transition here. Bryan was done last year, Cena is done this year, AJ said he’s doing the same next year. Joe is close. I think the majority of tha generation will be done by 2027.

Omega is winding down too it seems  sucks he never bounced back from diverticulitis and the fact that he reunited with the Bucks makes me think this is his last run

He might not be from that same generation, but will definitely suck when he retires. One of my personal all time goats.

Yeah, I was thinking about him too although not from the same generation.
I heard somewhere that the Bucks also said they’re close too.

Think by 2028 the wrestling landscape will be completely different.

Yep, and Ospreay is out long-term with a gimped neck, so he may even be on borrowed time too in the ring. That NJPW style absolutely wrecked their bodies.

It’s exciting to see whos going to break through, but sad seeing so many people nearing the end of their careers.

My fear with WWE is that Logan Paul will be one of the names leading the next generation.

He’s already getting more and more involved. At this point he’s on TV every week and has veen involved in almost every recent PLE.

Orton had a main event world title match at Backlash, and if the chin strokers are to be believed there’s a decent chance he’s facing Cody at Mania next year.

Breakker has been the next big thing for years at this point. Abysmal booking of someone being touted as a star. Especially the unnecessary years in NXT. No way WWE get any credit there.

Even having Bronson Reed under contract is embarrassing, let alone having him anywhere near the main event. And he’s nearly 40.

As for the ESPN list, I’ve got no issue with Ripley or Stratton. But I hardly know or care who Blake Monroe / Mariah May is. Oba Femi looks promising but it’ll probably be another decade at this rate before he’s actually a main eventer. It’s telling that the WWE men on that list haven’t even made it out of NXT yet.

Dominik isn’t a main eventer and doesn’t figure in the conversation. And wouldn’t have a job if not for who his dad is. I reckon if WWE book him in main events in the foreseeable future they might as well pack the company in because that would be too shit to be allowed to exist.

Good luck because I think Dominik is on the verge of becoming a World champion.

(Sidenote: Good catch on Orton at Backlash, that Cena heel run has been wiped off my memory)

He’s better than anyone in AEW according to Stevie Richards :joy:

But tbh I wouldn’t be at all surprised, he’s a dickhead but they know they can probably make an absolute ton of money from him.

In fairness to him, he seems keen to make this work.
The other day he was bumping for the babyfaces off the air and practically got embarrassed to send the crowd home happy.

I still think he sucks but it seems his alignment with The Vision and Heyman isn’t a one-off. He’s gonna be working closely with some of the best minds in wrestling in the foreseeable future, you’d think that help him become more than just that annoying celebrity that can do wrestling moves.

Oh yeah definitely. It is pretty amazing how well he seems to have taken to wrestling and seems very natural with it all. He can do a better Buckshot lariat than Punk too :arteta:

It’s a Paul Heyman guy special.

Underrated match, important to the creation of Crow Sting.

Does she realise she implicated the majority of the male roster? Well, at least she protected that one guy by not saying his name.
Judging from the way Seth casually continuing munching away, he must be well aware of who that was too.

Great odds on The Vision winning tonight.
Can’t see how the babyfaces winning would make any sense.
Should be good PLE regardless. Expecting the WM matches to start forming by the end of the event.

Why should it be a good show? Shit card capped off by the old men being wheeled out to do an imitation of themselves in their prime.

WarGames usually produce good matches and there’s WM implications.
Crowd should be good too. Stadium’s packed with 40k people.

If they still can’t deliver a good show here then I’d be seriously concerned.

By wargames produces good matches, do you mean copy and paste matches?

It’s been running on the main roster since 2022 and Jey Uso has been in all 3 previous Wargames, Jimmy in 2, Roman in 2, Drew in 2, Reed and Punk last year, Cody the year before that.

Similar story in the women’s. Iyo has been in every wargames match including all the NXT ones, Lynch, Ripley, Bliss, Flair, Jax all have history in the match.

Hey, maybe Iyo will jump off the top of the cage, that’d be original!

Might as well just watch an old one.

The other two matches on the card are both obvious skips.

I think Cena v Dom 2 should be interesting with it being in Dom’s hometown. Hopefully John drops the title back to him.

I’ll watch that the same way I watched the first one. Through the medium of stills as I attempt to skip past it efficiently.

Dominik is a comedy act ffs. He looks like someone who won a competition to be allowed to wrestle a match on WWE TV.
